I have occasionally noticed some American discussion/sentiment about the super corporations already being too big and powerful. That's a national security issue.
which is where i'm going because the superpower of the superpower is the economy

The situation is of course a tricky one, since a lot of the politicians actually make money off of those companies big time. If you follow the senator's stock deals you'd want to puke on how directly they play the stocks on legislation they pass themselves. I agree with you that there's an issue (and an even bigger one for countries outside of the USA), but they are merely at the start to do something, and the speed at which they do is all but fast, and in my humble opinion, it does not look like top priority to an outsider.
nailed it. but not all of the politicians are the same. the California senators are and were independently wealthy (except for "the new guy") and they all understand the intersection between business, the community, and the environment. i made my point because it was exactly how Silicon Valley and the Tech Industry were created. this has always been some of if not the most valuable real estate in America since the 1870's, but until the 1980's it produced over 50% of all canned fruit in America (meaning it took 49 states to equal it) but because of location and infrastructure Santa Clara Valley was chosen, not least because shortened travel times were beginning to reshape the American palate (California Fresh) away from canned foods. so the two Senators, the provosts of the University of California (later @Berkeley) and Stanford, the administrator of NASA, and the U.S. Navy looked to build out an ecosystem to support aeronautics (satellites), electronics (the new IC), and high energy physics (weapons design at the time) and worked out basically to support Intel. but it benefitted everyone in every aspect of what we know now as the pc industry. it helped to have the greatest number of resident Nobel Prize winners on Earth since 1938 living in the Bay Area too.

Since the GPU pricing, availability fiasco I have nothing but ill wishes for Nvidia. I hope they are stopped from sucking up ARM and all the brain trust, thus healthy ideas and competition. People speak of Americans suing, but in reality, this is not suing in the get money out of it type suing. This is the Federal government doing its due diligence to protect the people's interest, albeit their own too. Nvidia is trying to corner the market on innovation. I have no problem with the government doing a brake check on this "acquisition". https://media3.giphy.com/media/fBM4ruLmB2pZHsgwtQ/100.gif?cid=ecf05e47ruzyeot59184yx9fry3evufcgj3l1edgp7599tv6&rid=100.gif&ct=g

Its a good call. The UK government has an abysmal record on this type of thing. Throwing the baby away with the bath water. ( never under stood that one ) They would let the NHS service be sold off if they could. TBH I do hope the UK government intervene this time. After all the writing is now on the wall. 🙂

So it's not for sale anymore?...imagine a life where you own something so valuable and not be able to sell it?...eventually some government will own it and you get your wish. I would much rather trust Nvidia than some government takeover.

I personally think its a ruse. If this was a UK company acquiring an american then yes. Fine. But It makes no sense in today's world. It makes no sense from national point of view that a Federal agency would a) prevent one of its subjects becoming more powerful and more relevant on international market, at the expense of UK/Japanese conglomerate b) willfully refuse to put thousands of IPs under its umbrella It makes sense from some highly idealistic capitalist pov, but that sht don't fly anymore. If it ever did...

all of the commentary imho bolsters my point about Nvidia needing political cover. but they have fallen victim to "tech bro-dom". i may be a "tech bro" but i don't act like one in public. "tech-bro" has come to be a pejorative, a synonym for selfish asshole - like the V.C. tech-bro who tried to cut access to the beach adjacent to his property...when all the beaches in California are public and the public has right of way to them. Jen Hsun has more than a touch of hubris, which previously has served him well but not now.

Nvidia will move its headquarters to Texas.

The UK government would not take over Arm. In My neck of the woods thats called nationalisation. What it is down to is monopoly's. The UK government has this monopoly's and mergers commission that is supposed to intervene and stop the likes of NVidia taking over the likes of Arm as in NV becomes a Monopoly. So the UK government should look for a more suitable company to purchase Arm. Hope thats clear, I'm not to good at this deep stuff.

Regardless of who takes over ARM, rest assured senators will make stock money, ceo's will assault workers while taking huge bonuses and people will keep purchasing the products knowing all this.

Choose your pick: Google, Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Nvidia, or a Chinese backed company? It's not a matter of ' if ' but ' when and which? ', hostile takeover are a thing afterall. If any of those company wants it bad, they'll get it.

That Federal agency is controlled by a goverment that takes huge donations from big tech, who in turn get to tell those elected officials what to do. If Apple/Intel/etc don't want Nvidia owning arm then they just use their paid off policians to block the deal. Nvidia's counter is to give out even bigger bribes, err I mean donations!
