Saweeeeeeeet..... Hey but look at AMD and their advertising...... Next to nill. Products if interesting enough will speak for themselves.... Especially if they're that good to begin with word of mouth is the best advertising one could ever want. Speaks volumes and is simply free for the manufacturer of course....... Why do you think I come to this place......?!?!?!?

Yes and no. I personally haven't found much consistency between a product's level of success and how much they push ads. For example, Apple and Coca Cola pump out ads all the time and they're both huge. The thing is, you could argue "neither of them need ads; everyone knows who they are" but the thing is, we all know who they are because of those ads. So why can Tesla get away without ads? Because they're the hipster of the automotive industry. People choose them because they (and now, their exterior designs) aren't mainstream (which ironically, makes them mainstream). Products sell well when people are hyper-aware of them. So, whether you make a catchy jingle with flashy colors, or pump out so many ads that it's always the first thing that comes to mind, people subconsciously gravitate toward familiarity and popularity. In the case of Tesla, they're so unconventional that news sites keep reporting on them, and in turn, people keep talking about them. So, say what you want about how ugly or weird that truck is, but us commenting on it is Tesla's free advertising.

I doubt they would have had the same numbers if the reserve amount would have been lets say a quarter of the price, not just 100$. not even talking about the fact that the ppl looking for a car first, and compare it to combustion based brands, realize Tesla isn't "there" yet. Or you wouldn't have 50% of Taycan orders coming from (former) Tesla owners. Or the fact they call their stuff Autopilot, when their cars aren't even lvl 4/5, which is required for autonomous driving.

I would not be surprised if Elon Musk in a moment of insanity hit the reserve button 187000 times... - this is Tesla so it should be a button... Or maybe it was one guy that reserved it but the system entered an 187000 times loop... It would not be the first time that he lied or to be more elegant: grossly exaggerated...

Is anyone going to hold Elon accountable when they find out he can only make 1 or two??

As repulsive it is to look at, the tech on this thing is incredible. But you already know Ford and Chevy have their EV pickups under wraps. You know Ford is getting there with their EV tech; The Mustang Mach-E for example, but idk about Chevy. Everyone is playing catch up to Tesla.

146,000 are non-binding reservations. Which is akin to clicking "like" on a facebook post. Tesla is dropping the ball. They had the opportunity to just make an electric truck but instead made this polarizing monstrosity. This will not sell. It's too ugly. Why did it have to be so ugly? Plenty of other Electric trucks will be here soon. If I were a stockholder, I'd be pissed. Tesla blew it.

I know it looks hilarious, but I think it would be great fun to drive. If I had cash to burn I would probably get one. Feel like you are driving a vehicle from mass effect, total recall, blade runner etc.

I haven't had any interest in owning an electric car until now. I also see pickups as impracticle, pointless vehicles for the majority of people, especially in this country. But this Tesla thing is cool. It looks cool, it has great tech, if I could afford one, I'd love to get one.

Sure, there will be some people that want this, but that's the minority. Most find it repulsive. it won't sell that well. Don't get me wrong. As a nerd and a lifelong car enthusiast, I love that this thing exists. It's comical. As someone who wants to see Tesla actually succeed, I think it's a joke.

Exactly.... word of mouth...….. Think I said that in not as many words.

Sort of. You were hinting that there's no need to advertise, but, my point is it all depends on the product. Some products are a success because of advertising. Tesla is "hipstery" enough to not need it; it's the exception, not the rule.

K.S.:

hopefully you don't live anywhere with an HOA 🙂 EDIT: UK Right... nvm
Curious as to what an HOA has to do with owning one? @ southamptic around here 50% of people that buy pickups never use them as such 20% occasionally and 30% actually need one. Just seems to be a popular vehicle just because so I can see that selling.

The demo with the steel ball cracking the window kind of sums up Elon Musk to a tee, loads of talk but the reality is often no where near the claims and when people find out it's usually followed by some flub to try and distract them. As for the 'pick up truck' Anyone seen those awful cheap 80's sci-fi movies that used to show what the directors thought cars in the 21st century would look like? Well there you go!

I assume you're from the UK given the name? Gonna be tough getting hold of one of those over here, at least the way it looks as shown. No wing mirrors, not even something that looks like replacement for wing mirrors so no MOT.

I bet it gets real tiring as a day to day driver. The interior looks like it has next to no sound reduction which may be fine if it was rocking some awesome exhaust and engine noise or on the flipside was an electric car designed with those low resistance tyres but this thing is huge and the tyres are massive. They look bigger than the ones on the F150. I bet any kind of speed the tyre noise in this pick up is going to be really annoying [youtube=uKX7mwWnygE] Kind of hard to tell given that the guy is talking for most of it but their is defiantly an audible rumble of tyre noise through out the time it's moving.

Tesla is doing so well its about time they get rid of those taxpayer funded subsidies both on the sale and manufacturing side and see how they do. People with enough money to buy a car as expensive as a Tesla doesn't need help buying it.

Bond has one already. [youtube=wQ3tnsMlkBI] (try not to laugh when seeing Musks face)

Hydrogen driven fuel cells are way to go...electric cars in their form now are dead end. Short distances, long charging, and batteries to replace every 4 -6 years. Lithium batteries, is one of rarest elements in globe, while hydrogen anybody with some electric current can make himself(pick solar panel on roof or yard wind turbine...) But no. Forced is electric shit bc is 'ecofriendly ', and to participate in this craziness there are incentives (goverment grants) for buyers. Who pays for this shit? I pay, you pay, everybody pays. In damn taxes. Which could be spend for something else, like cancer cure. Or whatever....
