Maddness:

If this happens, then I will replace all my remaining drives with SSD ones.
what about dependability though? I have a 10year old 1TB hard drive that is one tough drive...

@wavetrex Using 4tb is good as exampleto prove a point, not so much for real life comparison. No one needs 4tb definitely nit ur avg user, and prices will go down once you look at smaller drives. i will prefer almost any ssd over ANY hdd, no matter its size. By the time the hdd woke up, i already have the data (ssd). E.g. Just swapping the hdd for a ssd (on dual core atom netbook) decreased the boot time from +2:30min down to sub 30s. Even if i disregard the speed, just the fact i dont have to hear any noise and that the drive isnt sensitive to shock/temp (within reasonable limits), are the main reasons im on an all-ssd rig for years now. So even if i would get the best and biggest hdd for free, it would still end up on Craigslist or ebay. .

Unless you go by the title. 0.08 cents per GB. I'll go use a few quarters and a nickel to buy my next 1TB drive. 😉
i did not even notice the mistake on the tittle i automatically assumed 0.08 $ @fOrTy_7 well played 😛

They seem to be pretty reliable and with no moving parts, it makes sense. I've been running SSDs for a few years. (aside from my main storage drive). What seems to happen is they just get too small and you get something larger. I've yet to have any of the 6 I own fail or show any signs of slowing down. All are still in use, some in their 2nd or 3rd roles. If this story is true, I too may look at getting a massive one and finally replace my last internal mechanical drive. If nothing else, I highly recommend running a smaller one for the OS (120GB should do) to anyone not already doing so.

This is still nowhere near HDD prices. In Europe where stuff is usually more expensive it's possible to get 4TB HDD for just 96 Euro: https://www.amazon.de/Seagate-ST4000DM004-Interne-Festplatte-Cache/dp/B0713R3Y6F/ I'm guessing in US it's even cheaper. Even at $0.08 / GB, the price for a 4TB SSD is $327, and most likely going to be much higher than that (400+) Let's wait 5 more years and maybe we can talk about price similarity with HDD's p.s. - @MaCk0y is right, title is confusing. It's 8 cents per GB, not 0.08 cents !!
You cant compare mechanical to ssd, even the slowest ssd`s are 3 - 4 times faster than the fastest hdd`s.
