Imagine the price if nvidia made the gpu for this kit.

It would still cost 3000$.

Let's hope it is the sensors or something because that price is pretty steep based on the hardware foundation. Consider that I just purchased the Kangaroo mini-pc which runs the quadcore atom Z8500, a faster atom version and basically the same level of performance for less than $100.

probably thanks to that custom made "HPU" imagine how much you have to pay intel to dedicate their time to make this special snowflake instead of mass market profitable chips

That's a great argument. You have now two terrible posts in the same thread that have nothing to do with the product at all. The price has probably a lot more to do with the R&D that went into the device then the hardware itself.

Performance difference between z8100 and Z8500 is extreme. That thing has only 2GB of memory, because low end parts have this limitation alongside single channel connection, cut down graphics (and max 500 instead of 600MHz), CPU clock 40% lower, ... But in the end of the day, it does not matter, because those 2W SDP Atoms will thermally throttle in that device anyway. Tho, having higher part with 4GB memory would at least give some long term usefulness. Anyway, what kind of sensory inputs they need when they render at 30fps... Low grade sensors with some errors, but able to deliver 120 values per second allow for averaging of data and fixing such errors.

There is some off topic-ness going on here... So how about we cool it down folks.

depend where, right now it is AMD who is overpriced for what you get... but if they sell well at this price they would be crazy to not do it 🙂

its a DEV KIT, people. the price is artificially high because they want actual serious developers to pick it up because they only have a limited quantity available. Geez. retail price will be much lower...

This has become a "i want it at $3k cost" type of thing... I am on the wait list...I can afford it...I will love it when I get it...

So you are saying that a CPU which turbo boosts in razor thin tablets with thermal throttle in a big hololens? Please send me what you smoke. Sharing is caring.
