"SK hynix's DDR5 supports transfer rate of 4,800 ~ 5,600 Megabit-per-second (Mbps), which is 1.8 times faster than the previous generation - DDR4. It can transmit 9 full-HD (FHD) movies (5 GB each) per second with 5,600 Mbps transfer rate." I think you need to review your math on that one...?

Point is how much is the latency? Would it take to the end of the lifetime like the DDR4-4266 to achieve DDR3-2133 and DDR2-1066 performance levels?

Well going from EDO to SD, then to DDR then to DDR2 then DDR3 and then DDR4 it will be shit about a year after they start to improve.

It's going to take a couple of years for latencies to compete with DDR4, it has always been like that. What's worse is that it's going to cost double or even more than the similar DDR4 module. Maybe that 2024 with expected 43% of DDR5 modules will be somewhat interesting year to really switch and it will likely be the time for upgrade too.

the majority of changes are to the pcb interface and chip select, latencies shouldn't be worse than ddr4
