Seagate is poo in my book, never again.

My ST33000651AS 3TB Seagate which is over 4 years old is running like a champ. Current runs 24/7 and is over 90% full. I personally get a long life out of my Seagates.

I lost 2 HDDs in my life, I think, one Maxtor and one Seagate.
You're welcome, Hilbert.

My 10 years old, 24/7, 2x 120 GB Seagate ST3120026AS with more than 80,000 power-on hours are still working flawlessly.
I love Seagate!
HDs lost so far: Maxtor, Hitachi/IBM, 2x Western Digital

“The drives that just don’t work in our environment are Western Digital Green 3TB drives and Seagate LP (low power) 2TB drives. Both of these drives start accumulating errors as soon as they are put into production. We think this is related to vibration. The drives do somewhat better in the new low-vibration Backblaze Storage Pod, but still not well enough.”
A simple read of the drive specification compared to other drives shows that this drive should not be used in high vibration environments.

Never had a Seagate fail on me, although I tend to use the higher capacity ones more for storage and there isn't much read/writing going on.
Odds are if prices keep going down I'll end up using a NAS with 10TB drives in a RAID setup and SSD's only in my PC in a few years.
Though I can imagine some HDD's being less useful down the road for certain enterprise environments.
At work (just fixing regular PC's and whatnot) every brand seems to fail similarly, with the exclusion being some of the better Seagate models, Hitachi's and WD Blacks are doing much better.
The only HDD that failed on me ever was a Maxtor HDD. Other then that when I buy a new HDD I do a full format and do every test: SMART, Short DST, Short Generic, Long Generic to somewhat avoid having my data placed on a HDD with defects.

This story was already dismissed as being inconclusive last year.

Just to add to what Noisiv said, nearly 80% of the Hitachi 3TB drives were 5400rpm.
All Seagate 3TB drives were 7200rpm and around 3yrs old.
Total WD 3TB drives = 859, failure rate was 6.9%, average age less than 1yr

I'm not disputing there was a problem with some Seagate 3TB drives, I'm just pointing out the Backblaze blog results should be taken with a grain of salt.
Fwiw Backblaze have 12,000 4TB Seagate drives, with a failure rate 2.6%, (1yr old).
Not that this matters but out of maybe 15 Seagate drives I've owned, I think I've had 1 fail......

I am not trusting anything from Backblaze. They are using consumer HDD for datacenters and they are not even made for that.
Plus there are many reasons why some HDD may go bad in a datacenter.
I had my 4TB for like what... 2 years? So far I had absolutely no problem, I use it as a backup drive/steam games and thats it. It works for my needs, it works well. It was cheap compared to the WD Black 4TB, its slower ya but its also cooler and quieter, which is what I wanted.

Seagate load of bollocks, funny as i was discussing how bad Seagate were with a customer from my own personal experience 24hrs before the article was posted on Guru3D! These statistics are very true 100%.

No surprise there. Seriously, it's a wonder that ****gate is still in the market. Everyone I've ever met has bad experiences with hdds from that company. I've had 3 seagates die on me, I have an old 250gb WD drive that survived all that and I'm still using it right now as a media drive, 0 problems after 4 years. I also have a 2tb wd black drive, It's been almost 2 years that I got it, no problems as well.
I'd say that if you care about your data stay away from seagate.

This is why ALL my HDDs are either WD or HGST. I can't say I've never had issues, but WD's RMA process was always top notch and really easy. Its no surprise that Seagate has the highest failure rate. Especially since their acquisition of Maxtor as those hard drives always had issues and high failure rates.
