It's a user interface; what did you expect?
Although, the PS3's XMB was far from perfect - it's lack of proper folder nesting was annoying when it came to sorting out my music by artist then album for example (I couldn't basically) - it was vastly superior, faster and had a nice minimalistic style that meant it has remained unchanged since launch unlike my Xbox 360's which has had three or four major revisions, with each one worse than the last IMO. The Xbox 360's dashboard is also cluttered, sluggish and infested with adverts. I expect that Microsoft will adopt Windows 8's Modern UI or something similar for the Xbox 360 and I'm none too keen on it on my PC to be honest...
As long as the PS4's user interface does what it is meant too with speed and a sensible, clear layout without intrusive ads then I really don't care what it looks like.

Looks like a games selling machine. Ads + integrated Streams + comments about games with the little buy button below to get it right away. Nice feature tho.

Was kinda hoping for more of a XMB evolution not a whole new layout oh well.

Part of the objective for the new UI seems to be minimal button pushes for maximum result. While I never had an issue with the PS3 XMB (except the mentioned issue with music folders not nesting very well) the XMB menu doesn't seem to lend itself to well to one button push functionality.
The only worry is that the XMB UI looked clean and clear and only displayed the info you selected this new UI looks like it is going to be choke full of info most of it utterly rubbish or purely designed to get you to insta buy products. Hopefully it will have some degree of customisation.

I use facebook and other social "crap", but i don't get this on a console.
I miss the old SEGA times, when you get that new game and you run at home and you just play like crazy.

you can still do this. i do this with every console game i get. the social stuff isn't intrusive at all and 99% of the time its not even activated by accident. i don't use it but i can see why people would.

Hmm...seems like the interface was taken from Flipboard (Mobile App) and then mixed with Metro (windows Tiles) and then converted into PS3 esque interface. And to be honest it does look a little cluttered. Actually a little more than the current Xbox360 interface (which i hate)
