Innodisk iSLC - MLC with higher endurance

Innodisk is working on iSLC NAND flash memory, a new technology that should dramatically improve the endurance of conventional MLC NAND flash memory chips. Whereas today's MLC NAND memory chips have an endurance of 3,000 - 5,000 program/erase cycles, Innodisk claims it has figured out a way to reach an endurance of 30,000 program/erase. The company's iSLC promises performance close to SLC flash memory, at a considerably lower cost. The first iSLC-based products from Innodisk are expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2013.

We think it's impressive alright and the craftsmanship is just excellent. meet Conrad Yeo Kai Kee, at the age of 33 he build this creature and named it Project Rampage. This actually is his first first ever attempt in modding and also water cooling of rigs. Lots of time is spent in reading and sourcing out items needed for the build. Have a look and be amazed.

NEC has unveiled their new dual-band WiFi router, the AtermWG1800HP. Corresponding to the ‘Draft 11ac’ (the new standard for wireless LAN IEEE802.11ac), the AtermWG1800HP comes with a USB 2.0 port, four LAN ports, one Internet LAN port and dual-band WiFi access point (2.4GHz – 450Mbps and 5GHz – 1300Mbps), and provides security through encryption using WEP or WPA/WPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES).

Intel to split Haswell ultrabooks in three price categories

DigiTimes claims that  rumors from notebook makers that Intel has three price groups in mind for ultrabooks based on the upcoming Haswell platform. These three price levels are $599-$798, $799-$998 and $999 and above. Display sizes will range from 11.6" to 15", and all models will have Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) and at least 4GB DDR3 memory.
For the US$599-798 segment, the ultrabooks will feature a clamshell industrial design, adopting an Intel Core i3 processor, Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU and 500GB hybrid drive (HDD/SSD). The devices will also have battery longevity of about eight hours and one week in idle mode.

Microsoft to drop Windows RT brandname

DigiTimes writes Microsoft will no longer launch products under its Windows RT brand. Instead, the software giant will merge the product into its next Windows release, codenamed Blue. Although the PC supply chain had pushed the Windows on ARM (WoA) platform aggressively, the Windows RT's name, which has misled most consumers into believing that the operating system is able to support all existing x86 Windows programs, the lack of apps, as well as compatibility issues have all significantly damaged demand.

PC gaming market actually grew 8 percent in 2012

A study from the PC Gaming Alliance, the PC gaming market saw an overall growth of 8 percent in 2012 to a market value of $20 billion. Interestingly, despite various claims that PC gaming is dead, the market grew 90 percent over the past five years. The alliance claims there are over a billion PC gamers and notes China now accounts for 34 percent of PC gaming revenue.

EA: DRM is a failed dead-end strategy

In an interview Frank Gibeau, head of their labels division of Electronic Arts, stated that digital rights management is a 'failed dead-end strategy' is. He also stated that DRM was not an intentional move for Sim City turning it into an online only game. He puts his foot down when it comes to DRM With the Sim City launch problems EA moved as fast as it could to rectify the situation, but some players felt EA's real intent was to force DRM on its customers. Maxis head Lucy Bradshaw's blog post seemed to only stir the pot, but EA Labels president Frank Gibeau now insists that DRM had absolutely nothing to do with the game's design whatsoever.

I swear I remembered I already posted this ? Ah well, Corsiar sends out a press-release announcing a new driver update for its Vengeance 2000 gaming headset that adds Dolby 7.1 channel surround sound. Corsair today announced the release of a free software driver update which adds Dolby Headphone 2.0 and Dolby Pro Logic IIx to the Vengeance 2000 wireless gaming headset. The addition of Dolby Headphone to the Vengeance 2000 improves both surround sound quality and game compatibility.

SamMobile is reporting that the Plus tablet will be a high end tablet with a 10.1inch or 11.6inch Super AMOLED HD display. Although the latter choice sounds a bit large, it is still a possibility with pixel resolutions going through the roof. Moving to the inside, SamMobile has confirmed that this tablet will be carrying the full Exynos 5 generation chip.

Linux users file EU complaint against Microsoft

The 8,000-member Hispalinux, which represents users and developers of the Linux operating system in Spain, said Microsoft had made it difficult for users of computers sold with its Windows 8 platform to switch to Linux and other operating systems. Lawyer and Hispalinux head Jose Maria Lancho said he delivered the complaint to the Madrid office of the European Commission at 0900 GMT (4 a.m. EST) on Tuesday. In its 14-page complaint, Hispalinux said Windows 8 contained an "obstruction mechanism" called UEFI Secure Boot that controls the start-up of the computer and means users must seek keys from Microsoft to install another operating system. The group said it was "a de facto technological jail for computer booting systems ... making Microsoft's Windows platform less neutral than ever". "This is absolutely anti-competitive," Lancho told Reuters. "It's really bad for the user and for the European software industry."
