interesting, maybe that is the future, or maybe the micro-led technology Bad times for buying a new TV, too many options. I hope my actual Panasonic Plasma keeps ok for more time 🙂

Same 🙂 teevees are putting consumers in a quandry right now, and (if I may pontificate) is kinda the position we began with when the whole '3D' crap started ten years ago.

How long have you had the plasma for?
data/avatar/default/avatar07.webp
Bought my 60" zt60 when they were on clearance in '13 or '14. 5 year square trade, but it's still going strong and looks better than nearly all 4k TV's(sansOLED) at the right viewing distance. Sports on a plasma is heaven.

Either way its done these will not be cheaper than the relative OLED's released at the time of these. Just due to the added manufacturing processes it'll be much more expensive than competing options. Loving my 2017 LG OLED and Vizio's 2018 100 zoned backlit home theater TV. In about three years or so when the proverbial dust settles ill be ready for another upgrade or two and it should be just in time for my new consoles and PC build!! Still waiting for all teams (Red, Blue and Green) to get their heads outta their arses so as we can have legit PC competition once again. As opposed to this nickle and diming the consumers with hardware pushes from yesteryear in the form of less capable hardware all together. Innovation regarding hardware should never be pushed backwards to the consumer. Sales I guess......why I'll never want to deal with it....

I agree with sports content on Plasma. Do you have burn in?

There is a difference between burn in and image retention.

Mine is 14 years old. Panasonic P50 something.
data/avatar/default/avatar24.webp
The issue with plasmas is that they have a half-life of about 10 years - meaning they lost half their brightness approximately every 10 years. The change is so gradual that most people don't notice, but I know that my 2009 Panasonic P50 was getting pretty bad as far as viewability on bright summer days when it died a couple months back. I replaced it with a 2017 LG OLED and man, I would never want to go back. Sharpness is the big difference - plasma tends to be a bit "soft" due to cell bleed, but the color vibrancy is much better, and HDR looks incredible (unlike on the LG 70" LCD in my HT, where it's barely notable, probably because of the lack of local dimming).

Doubt the got sony to license them the tech, so its maybe based on their phone screens. But also shows how "not so good" their tvs are, or they wouldn't feel the need to improve on things like viewing angle..

I thought I read that OLED is suppose to remove the static refresh rate. Has that been figured out?

If OLED displays don't hit the sub-$1k price range and offer more size options before micro-LED launches I don't think manufacturers will bother with OLED long after.

I think you misunderstand. The last several years of plasmas had brightness half-lives of 100,000 hours. that's over 11 years of being on 24/7. I have a Panasonic ST30 that has been my primary television since 2011. I barely have 10k hours on it, which is still several hours per day. I also have calibration tools and I tweak it occasionally, and the maximum luminance hasn't gone down by a measurable amount in that time period. I will have long since replaced this television before there is a perceptible drop in luminance. Also, backlights on LCD televisions are actually much worse than OLED/Plasma in terms of long-term reliability.

This is supposed to be cheaper than the microled. The reason for this is that the luminofor that they apply over the blue oled layer is chemically deposited, so you can cover a large area at once and it costs the same money to apply it on any size screen.
data/avatar/default/avatar30.webp
This just means MicroLED is still a ways off. QOLED will still have the same problems that OLED has as a technology.

Yah - my Panny Plasma is roughly the same. In addition, I took it to a Panasonic servicing centre two years ago to have a complete service and they said it was 'perfect' on all the charts they ran it through. The cost? £65. https://www.panasonic.eu/ServiceCenter/en_GB/index_uk.html Above link for UK/GB, not sure where you are but it's sooooo cheap and is a really worthwhile investment, just to have another 12 months warranty from an official Panasonic servicing centre. Top value.

@ttnuagmada Lol, might wanna read up on tv tech. Qleds arent oleds. They are regular led driven lcd screens, but since it took samsung 6y to catch up with others, and not allowed to make oled tvs, they decided to buy the company called qled so they can slap it on their tvs and mislead customers (thinking qleds are better since q comes after o). Watch the review (hdtvtest on youtube) of the q9 being beaten by a 3y old sony tv, outside the fact that the guys says one of the least accurate images hes seen on a tv of everything he tested...

You might actually want to read the comment you responded to, I said QOLED. IE Q-OLED. LG has patents on the WOLED RGB filter method. Samsung is absolutely allowed to make OLED TV's, just not using the method that LG does, so instead of using white OLEDs with an RGB filter, they're using blue OLEDs with a Quantum Dot layer. No one here is talking about QLED dumpster LCD televisions but you.

still coming from the same thing. they bought the company that was called Q(led),and its virtually the same color "improvement" (quantum dot) they already do on their leds, so it really doesnt matter if its qled or qoled. when i see how long it took LG/sony to get it to a level worth selling as tv, doubt samsung will do any better, in a shorter time. especially when looking at the fact that they do oled (dont care which one) screens on other devices for a while..
