No they didn't, they bought QD Visions IP, and named their television product QLED once they finally hit 100% DCI-P3 coverage. You clearly don't understand the benefits it brings here. the RGB filter that LG uses on their OLEDs cuts potential light output by a pretty significant amount (over 30%). Using Red and Green QD layers over a blue OLED doesn't cut output at all (this is a major benefit in LCDs as well). This means they can either make it brighter, or limit the brightness and make them last longer and be more burn-in resistant. You're rambling on about things you clearly don't understand very well. I mean for instance: you keep mentioning Sony, when Sony doesn't have anything at all to do with OLED production. Sony uses LG panels just like Phillips and Panasonic. You also seem to forget or not realize that Samsung has long been the worlds largest OLED manufacturer. If they're bringing TV's to market, it's because they have the technology ready to do it. It's not like they're new to OLED, they have more experience than literally everyone.

I dont really care what the details are behind samsungs q stuff. Its about color enhancements sony/lg are doing since 2012, and it took samsung till now to do the "same" thing, and adding the Q (no matter if oled or lcd) is about color, not different lcd/oled tech frommother brands. just because sony doesn't make panels, doesnt mean they cant be behind the technology used. Or how did they have an oled in 2007 (xel 1), lg wasnt working with them back then. and i dont care how long a company is doing something, but who is using their products on the pro side. Why are they running a 50k sony oled to verify color accuracy and not a different brand?

Dude, no ones trying to pretend like QD's are some new thing, but Samsung is the company that has managed to get their sets to hit 100% DCI-P3 with them. Say whatever you want about their QLED branding, but Samsung has the lead in terms of color volume in consumer displays, and it's solely due to their QD tech. You act like using QDs is this one dimensional thing and that there is only one usage case. This simply isn't true. This OLED is a perfect example. If you can't understand what this brings to the table, then I don't know why on earth you think you're in any place to argue about display technology.
just because sony doesn't make panels, doesnt mean they cant be behind the technology used.
But they aren't behind the technology used. They don't have a single, tiny little thing to do with LGs panels. At all. Not a single thing. The fact that you keep mentioning them is just showing to everyone here that you have no clue what you're talking about. Sony doesn't have a single ounce of OLED tech being used in any current consumer display made in the last several years.
Or how did they have an oled in 2007 (xel 1), lg wasnt working with them back then.
Sony having made an OLED themselves doesn't have even the slightest thing to do with LG or LGs OLED panels, or the Sony OLED tv's. Literally absolutely nothing. That's like saying that Asus or Acer etc are "behind" the AUO panels used in their monitors. Sony doesn't have anything to do with LGs WOLED manufacturing methods. Nothing. Literally nothing. Absolutely nothing. You mentioning them in the same breath as LG like they have anything to do with any of this is just plain wrong and ignorant.

Because Sony makes a really high quality grading monitor? What's your point again? What the hell does Sony have to with Samsung implementing a QD layer in their OLED tech? What does it have to do with Sony sourcing panels from LG for OLED tvs? You are just doing a bunch of vague rambling on about things you half understand.
