Thanks Mega

Lol and I just got one of these arrived today, waiting to stick it in a new / rebuild as a game specific storage device. Lucky me I get to do the fix prior to sticking any data on the drive.

I have 2 250gb evo 840 drives. One is linux only and the other is split between windows and linux. So ive got a windows install I can run it from, but has anyone ran it on a linux drive yet? Ive updated firmware without issues before I'm not worried about that, its the performance restoration tool that worries me. Since it seems its going to rewrite data. Ill image the drive first I guess... there goes some hours this evening =/

"It works on systems running on SATA AHCI host interfaces" The firmware update guidance mention: "It works on systems running on SATA AHCI host interfaces". I'm been using a 120GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD as a system drive for the past year but I've never been able to successfully run AHCI. I'm quite happy with overall performance so I don't want to mess anything up. Does anyone know if: (i) the update will only be available in Magician if AHCI is enabled; or (ii) it will be available it but it might result in compatibility problems; or (iii) it will be available and it should be OK to install, even if AHCI is disabled? No sign of the update on Magician for me yet Many thanks Del

You will have to wait for bootable version of the tool, so you can use it on your linux drive, or just image the linux drive, update the FW and just format this drive and throw all the data back on it from the backup image. That way you will have all the data rewrited on the drive elimenating the performance problem. Or better just plug the linux drive in to any windows pc and just use the tool from windows, you can select in the tool on which drive you wish to work with the samsung restoration tool.

He ran the restoration tool, it took him about an hour to run it on his 500 GB evo.

I got almost 300gb of data. With 35gb over provisioning. At least an hour I'm guessing. At work atm will do later on today.

Guess it bites me in the rear now that I got the 1 TB version AND fairly well filled it. Step 3 takes like forever.

Kinda small drive being 1gb. Should take about a minute.

:wanker: you knew what he meant. Yeah it take ages to do but the whole process is pretty simple, just run the restoration program and it will reboot upon updating the firmware. Then the waiting begins as it "restores" the drive. No idea what it did but its faster now after that long long process (I actually thought it crashed at 81% because it didn't move for ages)

fixed, ty  And it's still running, 83% currently. That'll be an overnight run I guess.

It took a little over an hour to do my 1 TB EVO. I had about 400GB of space left on it though.
