Do most/many people just use their phone without a protective case? I ask because on this phone and previous Galaxy phones, people complain about the looks. My GS3 isn't particularly special looking either (white plastic) but I never see it anyways, it's in a nice looking case. On a side note, whoever designed the GS3 to have the camera lens sticking out lower than the entire rest of the bottom surface was a real moron. You have to buy a case or you can't help but eventually scratch that camera lens when you lay the phone down.

I guess I'm superman then, because Pentile looks grainy to me. Sammy stinged out on their flagship model for the year, I'm not the one who needs to be objective. Nothing I say changes the fact that they cheaped out, praising them for it certainly won't. Using the excuse that it's easier to cram in a Pentile screen is weak, every competitor has managed 1080p with a regular RGB pattern IPS.

And advantage of that pentile is lower energy usage so better battery life. Tho no idea how it looks grainy to you 😀 Even my sgs3 is fine vs everything else as it uses pentile. So did my old Wave phone but even that vs other stuff was nothing weird. Still consider the super amoled the best screen I have seen, calibrations are all sorts of wrong on all phones tho and they are far from accurate.

Meh phone. What about the mini? Need a smartphone for my mother.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to get Note 3 or wait for SGS5. I opted for getting Note 3, and it looks like it was a good decision. SGS5 is by no means a bad phone. It's great, and it's the best SGS so far. The problem is that there are other great options too, like Note 3, or Xperia Z2 if you don't mind sharp corners. It doesn't look like a must-have upgrade for SGS3/4 users either. To be honest, they could make back cover look like one from Note 3 and it would look much better.

- I thought just about everything except the Nexus series have expandable storage these days? I can't think of anything which doesn't. - Pentile is cheap in every meaning of the word. Samdung use it to save money, or so every report I read said so. Less sub pixels equals lower cost. Regardless of the accuracy or gamut, which still doesn't match IPS accuracy, Pentile is just so incredibly grainy side by side. I'm using a temporary phone I got for free until I get the Samdung S5, and its cheap little 4" IPS screen is worlds easier on my eyes than any Pentile screen I've seen. Yes believe or not the screen is my biggest complaint about the S5 unless the non + AMOLED screen doesn't use standard Pentile. - I read Ars regarding the 801 vs 800 and it said the GPU is 578MHz instead of 450MHz. The CPU is 2.45GHz over the old 2.36GHz so Sammy are either rounding up or adding a lulzy 50MHz. Memory bus at 933MHz vs 800MHz, so yeah that matches what you said. Overall load of meh. Samdung should have waited until the 805 was available or pushed for it to be completed sooner. - The UI looks EXACTLY the same and does almost nothing new. I much prefer stock Android over it. It's much more efficient in every sense of the word, both in system memory/performance without question and makes usage faster. The new Touchwiz seems to lack even the basic feature of clearing all open apps at once. So I guess overall I just don't agree with you about the screen or the performance boost being significant. The performance increase seems negligible and I hate Pentile. But I'll take what I can get, I'm not changing providers or paying full price for a phone so the S5 is by far the best I can get. I'd be happy if the screen was just IPS.
1. Only Samsung and Sony Seem to have expandable storage 2. False, Samsung uses a pentile Matrix so that the AMOLED will last longer, as I think the Blue in AMOLED can die very quickly. Also, AMOLED is more expensive then IPS, so no they are not saving money, they are just saving people the hassle of dead screens. They use AMOLED because it's their speciality. Displaymate reviewed the S4's screen highly 3. So far, no phone is using the 805, I have a feeling that the Galaxy Note 4 will have it. The S5 has an 801/Exynos Octa depending on region. And 3GB of Ram isn't going to make your games faster you know, funny iPhone has 1GB and it's way faster than any Android phone And I don't get the "average specs", I mean isn't the Z2 is exactly the same other than 3GB of RAM? Anyway I'm keeping my 5S, the phones coming out are uninteresting and look to similar to the past phones

I had a Nexus S which has a pentile screen. Its not about ppi, the crap sub-pixel arrangement makes it so grainy. I don't care if it has deeper blacks, etc since other phones that don't use AMOLED have very good color and talking about color, AMOLED doesn't even look natural IMO. And....that ugly design:puke2: http://pbs.twimg.com/media/BhT1WSPIAAA9Jt1.jpg:medium

And....that ugly design:puke2: Not taking about the PPI. Samsung can make a non pentile AMOLED, just look at the Galaxy S2. The problem is the life of the screen will be reduced if they did, which is why they used pentile, as it will increase the life of the screen. I personally like AMOLED because of the colours they produce, and it has more opportunity for innovation (like bendable screens etc.). Yes it has drawbacks (hard to see in sunlight etc.), but from reviews, Samsung seem to improve their AMOLED with every phone. Have to agree with the design though (especially the brown colour), I wonder if the rumours of a Galaxy F (metal Galaxy) is true

I hate the uneven solid colours and memory on amoled screens. Pentile hurts a lot on my Galaxy S. The IPS screen on my Lumia 920 is better except blacks are not as deep obviously but it is much faster. There is quite a bit of blur on Galaxy S.

SAMOLED tech has come a long way since the Galaxy S. I don't think that's a fair comparison at all. With the resolution on today's phones, pentile really isn't a problem either. The S4 set in movie mode is quite nice; a lot of the usual Sammy oversaturation is toned down and overall the experience is very good. It's not perfect and it has its drawbacks (colour accuracy, brightness), but at the same time it does have its advantages, and I think they've come a long way with it.

Pretty satisfied with my S4...don't need a new one (S5) But, thanks for the reviews guys
