this is hilarious, first NVidia try to sue Samsung/QUALCOMM, now Samsung is fighting fire with fire and doing the same thing to NVidia. such a joke.. Haven't seen apples name in the headlines in sometime.. just a matter of time before apple attack Samsung or vise versa. patent system seems little broken to me..

This is a joke. Banning NVidia GPU's would harm consumers as well as the US economy.

Samsung is suing NVidia and Velocity Micro (a very small company with limited resources that has absolutely nothing to do with NVidia's SoCs) and now asking for trade bans against products that Samsung can't definitively prove violate any patent they hold. This goes beyond a simple lawsuit.

Highly unlikely. These things are not taking lightly by regulators and actual banning isn't easy to accomplish. It's used as an intimidating tactic. Even if a rule is issued, the other side will appeal; further lengthening the process.

Exactly, they are all trolling at the end of the day. 😀 You do get tired of seeing the same thing on repeat, enough of these ridiculous never ending patent wars, bans and court cases popping up...

Actually nvidia seems to have started this fire and if you were samsung you would do the same thing. At the end of the day it's the lawyers making out the most so both samsung and nvidia are idiots

LOL, good luck with that.

OK now we see why Samsung support Freesync. Nvidia totaly failed to sue Qualcomm. But on Capitalism if you don't sue someone, then someone sue you.

I lost a lot of respect for samsung with this one. It was a low-blow for nvidia the first time around. On the other hand, nvidia isn't known to go crazy with lawsuits. I hope both companies lose the lawsuits they created, but Samsung's is especially dumb. Nvidia's confidence is a little worrying though. If they're wrong, their reputation is going to take a hit. As for Apple, I think they realized that everyone, including their own customers, do not appreciate their anticompetitiveness and that they're making a mockery of the legal system. I noticed the lawsuits calmed down very abruptly after Steve Jobs died, who wanted nothing more than to see Android wither and die.

If NV are correct, it will have huge implications for whole ARM industry. Samsung an Qualcomm license ARM IP for mali GPU NV saying basically not covered an require license through them for certain GPU patents. Basically if NV win, anything licensed through ARM IP could also be in trouble too.

The patent fight between Samsung and NVidia may be just the tip of the iceberg, eventually someone IS going to infringe on someone else's patent without realizing it. Has Samsung or NVidia looked at AMD's or Intel's designs to make sure that they didn't infringe on their patents or vice versa?
