Hmm still got two of those running... maybe that's what's slowing down my gaming rig's program and windows disk and lets me feel hickups from time to time recently.

I thought Samsung released firmware last October to fix this issue? So basically it is more than a firmware fix required. Do I detect a reason to RMA many disks then? Either way, in order for this to be fixed they had to have known about it for a long time as SSD degradation validation isn't something you can test in a short space of time. And come up with an immediate fix.

Krimson you bought the devils hardware bug pack. I use my 840 evo as the 2nd SSD d:\ with al my games on it. Many times BF4 just stops and i get a timed out from the server, can it have someting to do with the 840 evo? I cant find any other problem with my pc. I use the latest firmware version: EXT0CB6Q

been following this for a while now. Waited for the fix and the last week I purchased 2 from amazon. Seriously thinking about returning them.

I have the SSD in my laptop, but I still haven't remembered to run the firmware update. Better do the backups and get down to it. Needless to say, the laptop doesn't see overly heavy use, but maybe that only makes it worse if the drive slows down to read old data. Somebody at Samsung will lose his yearly bonus if they end up facing the possibility of replacing a good chunk of the 840 EVOs drives.

Well if there's a refund / replacement by something like the 850 evo, I'd be happy to get my two 840evo 120GBs out of my rigs and into their return stocks 😉 But, I don't believe there will be more than a firmware fix for it again.

i wonder if this fixable thru firmware update as in the news said, the performance is back after format then it must be controller issue right? do 840pro also effected by same issue?

I stick to a rule when I buy. Intel = cpu and hard drive + WD Gigabyte = main board. Corsair = memory Samsung = monitor NOT hard drive ! Stick to this rule and this wont be a problem. Each to there own I say.

Still using my PRO for over 1.5 years without a hitch so I guess not.

I'm running 840 evo as os drive and i don't have this issue. I'm running latest firmware so I don't know. Could just be them

Did the fixing tool run over the data before the three month storage? Or just the firmware update?

i get pretty much 50MB/s copying from evo ssd

Well it seems something is still not quite right with the Samsung EVO series. Here is my before and after performance with the "Original" firmware update last year. http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a629/Megabiv/SAMSUNG_zpsb690f6d2.png~original This one was run today which shows it's gone a bit...off, but still nothing compared to the original pre firmware performance. I wonder what's gone wrong with it to be honest. http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a629/Megabiv/Capture_zpsidpnfmu0.png

This was happening with my 840 256gb EVO, I am currently trying to RMA it. I guess I was just unlucky with mine.

Time to run the restoration tool from time to time, I guess.

Mine seems to be performing okay but I've only had it 3 or 4 months. If this is truly an unfixable hardware issue they should exchange them for the 850s.

Well, good my pc setups will change sooner or later this year, so I won't be afraid to lose any vital data with the restoration tool / firmware upgrades. The question still remains, is it a firmware problem? Is it controller related? Even if so, does it only effect the MEX controller (840evo) or also the MGX (850evo)? Because exchanging a 840evo for a 850evo would only mean to postpone the problem then 😉

I have samsung 840 series SSD`s at 2 comps. Both are running blazing fast no slowdowns. Same cant be sayd at my Revodrive x2 which is having huge slowdowns with my current setups.

I ran the restoration tool when it came out and so far no slowdowns have crept up.
