Sounds great! Be surprised if they came this year though

This probably hold gaming crown against 13900k even maybe against 14900k unless Intel has similar technology planned, especially if it's 15% faster than regular 7xxx none 3D cache chips.

Looking forward to the return of the €1000 mainstream CPU.

I'm so glad to be stuck in the 60Hz range, games look smooth to me cuz i don't know any better (don't need to know either) and it saves me tons of money on expensive hardware.

More cash (pun intended) seems to help in gaming performance, but I wonder if there is an upper limit or diminishing returns.

AMD should put 3d cache into the entire range of zen4 cpus.

To think my first PC had less ram...

@TheDeeGee while above 60hz it gets smoother, most buy it to reduce input lag. usually around 15-30ms i common, but using Nv reflex/gpu scheduling in 10, and using input lag reduction, you can get it doen to 8ms and less (depends if its cpu or gpu). biggest gain would be a screen using some sort of sync, possibly reducing it further, but definitely helps with fps drop/stutter, and makes for smoother play.

Considering AMD isn't doing that, we can assume it's expensive and cumbersome for AMD. Although all the rumours could be wrong, but Zen4 itself doesn't yet sound like an Intel killer. Zen4 + 3D cache, however, should give Intel a headache. So, why wouldn't AMD include it automatically? That not being a realistic option seems to be the only answer.

AMD didnt specifiy which zen4 cpus will get 3d cache but we can assume its gonna be higher end like 7800/7900x becouse of the cost. Still that does not rule out a chance that we might we see a 7600x with 3d cache. Thats where they gonna hurt Intel the most, midrange.

As a sim racer, 60hz just cant cut it. Especially when racing online in Iracing, drifting, anything. I tried running 60hz vs 144hz on my 49 inch, I was nearly a tenth slower on avg, that is alot in racing!

Changes from game to game, Flight simulator seems to love cache

AMD officially said it will be this year. I tend to believe it as it is the counter to Intel and timing wise its perfect for that.

Ye, see i'm casual and don't do competitive gaming.

Zen3->Zen4 .... meh Zen3->Zen4X3D ... "Shut up and take my money", as fantaskarsef pointed out ;-) Time to start saving for that DDR5

You don't need expensive hardware to enjoy 144-165-240Hz, a mid-range GPU will play old titles fine at high fps in 1080p

Just in time to add to Christmas wish lists.

I would hope they don't, in that it will add unnecessary expense to CPUs that will not really take advantage of it. The way I see it, the V-cache is really just meant to compensate for what otherwise could have been additional memory channels. You pay a little extra for the CPU but you can get by with only 1 or 2 DIMMs and still get plenty of performance with good latency. I see the V-cache as necessary for 8+ core models, since (generally speaking) each additional core will demand more bandwidth, and AMD wants to remove RAM as a potential bottleneck. Now, if APUs could get this kind of cache, that would be fantastic.
