Hmm... 7700 is still a little more expensive than I'd prefer but otherwise ticks the boxes I care about. I intend to upgrade my GPU before CPU, so, I'll see how things look by then. I want to wait for the 13400 and 13500 too, because those are potentially a better fit for me. All I want is something that can reliably provide 4K @ 60FPS with the lowest wattage possible, for $300 or less.

Those prices are much better than The X versions and the performance difference must be minimal. AMD, you have my attention now. Unless I see a great deal on black Friday...

Your existing cpu is most likely capable of 4k/60 unless you have an ancient one. My 9900k is capable of rendering 120fps minimum in Forza 5 for example, and about 160 average.
For some games, yes, it is enough, and that's why I'm not in a rush to replace it. I'm fine with avoiding stuff where I'm CPU bottlenecked, which honestly isn't much. Also... I've already carried over my existing GPU from my last PC. Games haven't been all that CPU bound in many years, so it'd be kinda stupid for me to upgrade my CPU, mobo, and RAM twice before replacing my GPU. The principle of the matter is enough for me to insist on replacing the GPU first. I'm not against doing everything all at once but I'm not willing to pay these higher prices.

Huh .....look at what competition and lower sales can do .... Make AMD release the non x models over a year earlier in comparison to their 5xxx series ! How about that ? @schmidtbag a bios update and a drop in of a like 150 bucks or so Ryzen 5600 will do that and then some ! From what I see your Biostar X370GTN support it !

Absolutely. I'm sure enticed by some of the sales going on by the 5700X right now. The problem is, my motherboard and RAM are crap, and I'd like to have SAM and PCIe 4.0 compatibility. Since I don't intend to get a high-end GPU, perhaps PCIe 3.0 won't be much of a bottleneck, and it wouldn't be hard for me to find a dirt cheap DDR4 upgrade. So I'll think about it. I want to wait for benchmarks of the 7700, 13400, and 13500. The 5700X is bound to get very cheap again so there's no rush.

my 65W on the 12 core part compared to 170 on the X model will likely see a sizable loss in performance over the 7700X

I remember ryzen 9 3900 didnt get much of a drop in performance compared to X model but that was 65w vs 105w.

R7 7700 sounds tempting but a 5800x3d still a better buy for me. Dont have to buy a new board, or ram. So IDK. I wanna upgrade my 5600x.

yeah it wasn’t too bad but now it’s down 105 which is a whole CPUs worth

The Ryzen 7900 should be a 90 to 105w TDP part. Either way with overclocking we should get closer to default/non-PBO clocks of the X parts if allowed.

65w on 7900, holy...

Yeah the 5700x would be awesome too for a drop in , if I would have to take the guess the 7700 will be 2-5% slower than the x model depending on the situation like every Ryzen nonX model ever released in comparison to their x counterpart!

A lot better.

Better just wait for the X3D models to see the whole picture, so far the prices are OK but not AMD great.

I hope there will be a 9 7950!

Meanwhile I'm starting to see better prices on Intel/DDR5 side. Push it a bit more and I'm temped.

In Portugal there are also some good deals on DD5, like GSkill Ripjaws 2x16Gb 5600Mhc CL36 for 210€ or the Flare versions 6000Mhz for 220€.

If the performance loss is around 5%, then it`s a great deal, at least for me. I wouldn`t be surprised if those "new" CPUs are the normal X versions but downgrade to meet lower price points.

Why would they do that and lose money? They finally have enough stock to put these out, and they seriously need it to see any kind of adoption of AM5. Unless you're on an ancient CPU it makes zero sense if you already own AM4: just upgrade your CPU to 5600/5800X3D and you're good for a couple years.

i mean the 1700 was a better deal than the 1700x and the 1800x it was even overclocking only 100 ~200 mhz less or it was matching em ...silicon lottery really ... 1600 vs 1600x too ....3600 vs 3600x vs 3600xt 3700x vs 3800x ...... 5600 vs 5600x 5700x vs 5800x ..... ALL of those the lower binned cpus where always better value the performance you loose was miniscule or ...0 ... the main idea is better sell the same chiplets on lower price and lower profit than having em stockpiled on a warehouse unsold , i seriously doubt there are enough lower bins with such a small difference to go around so they have to use the normal bins 😛 edit: i jumped to a ryzen 5800x and considring my humble ryzen 1600 was still hitting the 75 fps where i want no problem i have a feeling that 5800x will stay with me for 4-5 years at least most likely i will be looking to either buy a used 5950x or update to am6 the update to am6 or what ever intel has at the time or dropping in a 5950 would very much depend how benefitial the update will be ... for example i believe even today if there was an i7 2900k that was 8 core used for say ...100 bucks would have been a great budget option for people to update their 2500k and 2600k :P

it will be for sure better deal than the 7700x as usual .... ok not for sure ... i am just very confident for every other ryzen example from the past if they break the tradition now i can not be a medium to guess that 😛

Umh nope. Add 3d to it too.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/280/280620.jpg
I mean if it locked chip which cant overclock for the non X version then there is no point buying the higher number in the range. The price for non X might be better for those using mainstream setup.
