Mining I kind of get but I don't know why or how you'd ban cryptocurrency or blockchain technology in general. It has a number of really interesting applications that we're really only starting to see the use of.
Interesting applications ? Like drug and weapons market on the dark web ?

No, it isn't. A 3060Ti at MSRP would be good news, because that's the card most gamers would buy. A 3080Ti priced at an outrageous MSRP when compared to the "regular" 3080 and sold by retailers with a 100%-200% markup is not good news by any stretch of the imagination.

Why would I mean drug and weapons on the black market? How about creating a platform for music artists to allow fans to contribute to albums development, then said fans get proceeds of sales/royalties when the album launches, songs are streamed, etc all automatically? Say you love this upcoming artist, you invest some money into their album - album takes off - now you're making money off your initial investment. Apply this to game development, or other kickstarter/patreon projects. This is all starting to happen now with smart contracts utilizing platforms like Orica that run on Binance's blockchain technology.

I'll never buy Asus again: their cards blow up and they don't honour warranty. Also motherboards come full of problems. Asus was a great company when stuff was made in Taiwan, now everything is China and quality not existent. Buy MSI or other brand with a better reputation (hopefully still made in Taiwan) or face headache.
Thank you for the heads up, was going to go for an ASUS build this time around, guess not.

PC gamers are not special. It is not a right to own a GPU but if you do own a GPU ,do what you want with it.

PC gamers usually only need one GPU... Miners want 100 GPU's ... See the difference there? Imagine if I came to your town and bought up all the food then told you you're not special.

Like money laundry, drugs, weapons, murder, etc? Right, interesting applications.

You pay the ASUS premium (because its generally a more expensive brand) but the better quality isn't there. My Asus R9 270X was a beast and performed flawlessly, that was back in 2013. My Asus RX580 Dual is giving me issues and my friend has one that died in one year (the one ASUS don't want to honour warranty). So, do some research before you buy, but I'll honestly not buy ASUS again.

Literally posted right under. I don't really understand the sentiment by both of you who made the same comment.. like do you really think there are no other applications than blackmarket stuff? It's like saying "the internet is only useful for war" back in the 50s or something. It's incredibly short-sighted.

Some countries are starting to ban mining and trading crypto, still very few. Baffles me how the world has not yet banned this ponzi scheme.
It's a shame it is being abused to make a quick buck when I believe the original intent was to just have a way to move value without government or bank interference. We will ultimately lose that freedom because people abused it out of greed.

Ah yes, because there wasn't money laundering, drugs, weapons, murder and other crime before cryptocurriencies. Do you even think before you type?

Ill keep mining on my unrestricted cards. Funny thing is my cards will probably be worth more now due to being unrestricted. Amazing that people are cheering on artificial restrictions on what calculations you can perform on a processor.

Because US dollars have never been used for anything bad? And are printed out of thin air. At least bitcoin and most Cryptos have hard limits to them and no corrupt politicians can just print them out of nowhere to make everyone else pay by inflation.

Gamers "need" zero gpus. Go play your wii or something if you dont want to pay what a GPU is actually worth. And are you going to pretend the endless amount of $400+ old used GTX 1070s are also being "scalped"? They arent. A 1070 is worth more because it has more value today than a year ago. Thats why they go for $400+ even with abundant quality available. And why better cards go for more.

Especially during summer. I am not even contemplating of playing anything GPU heavy. It is hot as it is without spewing additional heat from PC. And no, I am not going to turn on air conditioner. There are plenty of good reasons why Summer should be hot and why Winters should be cold. Unless you have particular health issue(s), I suggest not turning on sissfication machine, I mean an air conditioner. Here are few great games than can/should be played on integrated gfx Darkest Dungeon Hearts of Iron 4 Faster Than Light (mods!) Kings of Dragon Pass Heroes of might and magic 3 Pillars of eternity

Of course they existed, but they are illegal and usually done with the aid of loopholes on law. That doesn't mean it doesn't leave a trace, most do. And as long as there is a connection or a trace, you can catch them. Not possible with crypto, so more than a Ponzi scheme, it's a money laundry scheme too.
