I too would prefer CPUs have an option to be sold without a cooler, but, I can see why both Intel and AMD don't do that. They don't want to be held responsible for poor performance and get a bad rating as a result because you decided to put a 60W cooler on a 95W CPU (for example). However, I do like box coolers. I usually reserve them to (oddly enough) replace the box coolers of PCs I build for other people. So the Wraith Prism for example would be a great thing to pair with a 3600. It would allow for a decent amount of overclock headroom and even if you don't OC, it should keep the system decently quiet for a minimal cost. Then, the 3600 box cooler could be used for something like an 3000G. As someone who does hobbyist robotics, the 3000G cooler could then be used to cool something like a motor controller. I haven't done this (I haven't bought either of those CPUs) but I've done similar things.

So many people complaining about the boxed coolers. These coolers are not supposed to be enthusiast-grade coolers that rival premium third-party coolers - they're supposed to provide basic cooling for the average Joe. Enthusiasts will most likely use their own coolers.

I'm using the stock AMD cooler that came with the 3900X. I find it perfectly fine. Looks great with the LED lighting. I don't hear it at all. CPU is not throttled or overheating. Getting great benchmarks. No reason to spend another 100+ on a similar third party cooler.
