I'm still using an RTX 3080 + 8700k stock. Should I upgrade or just have the cpu undergo a liquid metal mod and oc it? tia
If you are CPU bound, you should look at upgrading. It really depends on the games you play and the resolution.

No one who isn't a creator, enthusiast or a professional gamer has any business upgrading a Zen 3 or a Comet/Rocket Lake. I would consider upgrading a Coffee Lake at this point, but I'd also probably wait for Meteor Lake/Zen4 3D to make that decision.

Go see 13900k at 88w on computerbase. You'll be blown away.
Have you found test of Zen4 on 65w ? Might be also interesting . Because right now all this extra performance is close to nothing just more power and heat. If these CPUs can be locked to lower wattage it is fantastic news and should be reported to potential buyers.

Best gaming processor for now! Disable Ecores, clock it high to near 6GHZ, put it on Z690 MB and DDR4-4000CL14 kit probably the best bang for the buck. Within a measly 1-5 FPS vs all the top CPU at 4K! lol... Even at 1080p less than 5% spread... Or go 12600KF and buy that 4090 GPU for 4K gaming.
I disagree on the clock it at 6ghz part... otherwise your best bang for the buck requires an expensive 360hz monitor

In fps the intel 13 are ahead, but in performance per watt are the amd 7000 and 5000. To play the 5800x3d is still one of the best. If AMD lowers prices a bit, it can compete well.
For 7xxx series AMD needs to reduce prices a bit more and also needs lower prices for RAM and lower prices for motherboards....- so they need a lot not a bit. Good that Intel is finally coming back - maybe AMD will drop from that high cloud and come to senses - to increase sales you reduce the price not decrease production and keep them high! (ugly big corporation tactic from their part...)

people here know i can be critical and that when i like something i advocate for it. Intel has been on the bloody edge of my commentary for quite some time, but i eased up with roadmap pre AL. what i'm going to say is this - this is the best cpu from Intel since the legendary Q6660 (@ 64 nm lol) until the 7700X3D/7800X3D comes out, this is my recommended cpu. and not just for value, lower cost of maintenance, or easier cooling, but for performance as well. unlike many, i advocate for a (relatively) cheap set of DDR 5 5600 with the monies saved along with a B series board and buy rx6900xt as the best value gpu and you will be rocking and rolling @ 4k. all-in around $2,100.00 US in eurozone i definitely can see DDR 4 and updating the bios on an AL board.

...or use them to buy the elusive 4090....by the way "the rumors" said that leather jacket worked overtime at his oven to bake as many gpu's to fill many warehouses - where are the goodies?

It is not for MAX FPS but to lift the 0.1% and 1% lows... That is where 5800X3D is killing it.

all I could find is fps per wat charts on pcgh. confirms what I've been saying for a long time, for casual gaming all you need is a 5600/12400, they're good enough for 144hz displays and waaaay ahead of the rest in efficiency

If boards wasnt stupidly priced and you could get B650 for lets say 150$ it would be a different story.

Maybe with ddr5.

7600x is ddr5 too you know, and it tops around 6000 while rkl-s can take +7000

and the long ass boot time kinda ruin the high-end PC experience. Litterally any PC in the past decade with SSD can log on into Windows before Zen4 shows the boot screen.

there were supposed to be two launches this fall. one platform was supposed to be expensive and a small upgrade over last gen, the other one was supposed to be fantastic and cheaper than the other. everything checks out, as long as you don't care about brands.and isn't it better for the consumer that the superior of the two also happens to be able to use your current ddr4 memory and offer cheaper boards? really good time for intel, rkl-s is very good and their arc700 series turned out to be fairly decent. mlid must be crying in his bedroom.

LOL AMD was kinda over confident with Ryzen7000, who is gonna buy into a new expensive platform, just to upgrade again in 6 months with X3D chips? might as well delay the launch by 6 months when X3D chips are ready. By the time 7000 X3D chips drop it's already half way before Intel 14th gen drop, so buying Intel 13th now, enjoy a couple years worth of high-end gaming experience, sell CPU-MOBO-RAM and buy new platform (Zen6 or Intel15th). People kinda got the wrong way around, Best CPU will make the best platform, not the other way. For example when Intel 15th come out and it's miles better than Zen5, people can spend more for new platform and it would still make sense.

just going for 5800X3D insted, no need to upgrade MB or Ram at this point 🙂
