Yeah, it's overpriced like crazy. You can get an i3 desktop for like $300 and just shove a GPU in it + buy the ultrabook and save $200 and arguably get better performance from the i3 than the mobile CPU.

An i7 QM mobile chip will destroy a desktop i3

it's Razer, of course it's overpriced, other vendors will probably have it cheaper.

Yeah.. I'm not sure who would buy this at the price of the laptop and razer core. Why not just get a gaming laptop or build a desktop with the same power for half the price.

The people who would buy this would most likely keep it at home anyway so why not just buy a desktop and a cheaper laptop for portability? I couldn't see anyone lugging this thing around with them just to play games.

Wow. Imagine buying a high end laptop, plus at least 1000$ for an external gpu. I guess I'm not this product's target audience.

One thing I will say about the price of this, this is actually not all that bad. Thunderbolt to PCIE bridges are pretty high in price, on average they're about $500 and up and are not made for GPU support like this is. Not a bad deal, if my Alpha for example had Thunderbolt ports I would upgrade it with this and save me building a whole new rig.

Considering the desktop i7s don't even "destroy" the i3, I don't feel that's likely.
I'm not talking strictly gaming performance. CPU benchmarks will show that the QM is vastly superior in crunching numbers. With gaming, most dont benefit at all with more than 4 threads and 2 high clocked threads will be fine for 90% of games

At that price you might as well buy a new laptop.

They can build it customizable to put in your own psu (tfx,sfx,normal-which is a lot cheaper) and support only one pci express x16 3.0 This is much more cheaper.Don't tell me that it will cost more than 150$-200$ because 50$-100$ for the case and 100$ for controller. It is by far mooooore cheaper.

$500 for a metal case and a 500w psu????

That is a 3 slot enclosure. Here are a couple cheaper ones. This one is only dual Thunderbolt 2 for 20Gb/s Akitio Thunder2 PCIe Box: http://www.amazon.com/Akitio-AMZ-T2PC-TIA-AKTU-Thunder2-PCIe/dp/B00LTAUTHE/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458260838&sr=8-1-fkmr1 The "frequently bought together list show a PCIe riser and a 500w PSU for a total of $259.98 Then there is the proprietary Alienware one for $183 http://www.amazon.com/Alienware-9R7XN-Graphics-Amplifier/dp/B00PCJXN0I/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=516HrUdfJvL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0Q02HNPZK6BVBME09JQ2

I wonder what power supply they're using... with $500 asking price, it better be at least of a decent quality.

I agree that the pricing is pretty bad. This is Apple level price gouging. A decent 500w 1u seasonic psu sells for $99 USD on newegg and I cannot imagine a case and some minor thunderbolt to pci-e components on a pcb cost $400 more. Even the Alienware version of this sells for only $200 USD and less on amazon like cyclone3d listed http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1132986-REG/dell_9r7xn_alienware_graphics_amplifier_stealth.html Even is somehow Razor did a lot of work optimizing and designing their enclosure, they didn't do $300 extra worth versus what the engineers at Alienware implmented.

looks like overpricing is synonymous to razer... why do they even try to do that? Are people that willing to overpay for R A Z E R ?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/251/251033.jpg
I love the concept, but the price is insulting...

Ridiculous price, shame on Razer!
