"LAPSUS$, a hacking organization, has vowed to "help the mining and gaming communities" by finding a way to the Lite Hash Rate (LHR) GPU hash rate limitation."
Can anyone explain me how this can help gaming community?

More reason to ban crypto, it's only used by criminals anyways.

Classic move, trying to generate sympathies although they have no altruistic motive at all. Anybody believing them is naive.

"Hacker group Lapsus$ obtained access to Nvidia's servers for a week and took 1TB of driver and firmware files. The group is seeking for the Lite Hash Rate limitations on Nvidia GPUs to be lifted"
Lapsus$: IM so urgent needed the GPU driver and firmware cause if not they will ragequit "Elden ring" for that poor performance gameplay.
Nvidia: Okay I will unlifted the LHR for the sick of "Elden ring" stress.
Meanwhile:
Lapsus$: 😱

Lifting that restriction helps miners not gamer. in what delusional world are they living in. These are same people that called nvidia criminals from returning the favor back on to there system for there initial "criminal" activities.
Seriously how stupid and or delusional are people these days

Probably not what will happen, but if that firmware could be sent to the nouveau project (open source Nvidia drivers), that could really help push the project forward with better performance.

I wonder why if the have all this info they dont equip their own mining farm with modded BIOSs and rake in the money with the most efficient mining cards out there. I smell a rat.
Slammy
I saw a miner the other day saying that these cards are for mining and that they just happen to be good for playing video games on but that it was a waste to play games on such hardware etc.... WHAT?!!! Thats totally ass backwards...wow

Death to all miners.

how can anyone speak about "helping the mining and gaming community" and "we are selling..." blabla at the same time. The reason for this action is "money" or "more money...".
And there are two option which basically lead to same result:
1. Nvidia releases the NO-LHR version of the driver.
2. If there is anything like NO-LHR Version of the driver between the files they own, they will sell it to the mining community for lot of money.
The chances that nvidia will release something like this are probably 1:1'000'000'000'000 = never.
I just dont understand how they can publish something like this and do not get arrested already same day...
Strange world. And since i do not do mining with my GPU and i'm happy with power my EVGA FTW3 3080Ti has, i just cannot support such an action since this will make both communities (mining and gaming) look bad.
and if this was not kind insider job i just dont know what to tell regarding nvidias "security team"... 😳

Blackmailing large corporations or mobsters is a very dangerous game, because both can afford loyalty breaking bounties and enforcers of different kind.

If they would insert LHR mods into non-LHR versions I guess a lot of people would help them to distribute their payloads. But the way they chose just leads to more $$$ for the bitcoin miners and another reason to buy more GPUs.

I know the A100 40gb model costs a small fortune but if i was into mining then i'd save up for one. I saw a video of someone using GA-100s for mining and it blew the 3090 out of the water. Nearly double the performance and 450w vs the A100s 200w. Mining is gonna become less and less worth it as electric prices rise constantly.
You know you're in trouble when your own government emails you and tells you to buy all LCD bulbs for the house and switch all appliances off at the wall because Standby Mode wastes power too. Basically there saying bend over because we're about to f*** you in the arse. hahaha boy them LCD bulbs be very expensive here in the uk. I went to the store to see if they had any and they were like £7 each and they were only like 7-15w not very bright, the higher wattage ones were like £20 each....

@Reddoguk
I believe they are called LED bulbs, not LCD. But anyway, 15w LED bulb is approximately equal to 150w legacy bulb - ain`t that enough for generic house in UK (unless you live in castle or mansion)?
I switched to LED ones long ago, and despite their steep price I do not regret because they last much more longer than legacy ones.
PS I can add that the less wattage LED bulb has the longer it works. In kitchen we have six or seven small LED ones with 3-4 watts for 10 years without single replace. In the room with two 15w I have to replace nearly once a year.
Pryme
Same, I have only LED bulbs since the end of 2018, the last year I had to change the first one.
This demanding of lifting of LHR, don't make sense, mining company make millions with this mining thing (I'm trying not to say bad words), and have a lot of programmers working on this since the restriction was first launched. Even Nvidia launched a driver that bypassed the first LHR.
