I only hope this hype round has less AMD marketing BS and last way less. More expectation (based on lies) = More deception (based on reality) AMD is already the king of the mining GPU market with their "Gaming" GPUs but for the sake of competition in PC gaming market we need that AMD sells gaming GPUs to... ...PC gamers to play PC games! Unbelievable idea i know. πŸ˜• πŸ˜• πŸ˜•

ahahhahaha Good point. GPP can make some brands to change naming but the GPU themselves are supposed to be made as "gaming GPUs"...to play games on PC.

Funny, I've been hearing about Vega20 for nearly a month but I couldn't get any info on it, even from AMD devs (some of them are active users on Phoronix). This is the most real info about Vega20 I've heard so far.

I don't want higher clocks, I want better performance-per-clock. Despite what people think, Vega is a great architecture, but, it scales up very poorly. Even though the APUs are starving for memory bandwidth, they still have very good performance-per-watt. In order for Vega 56/64 to compete with Nvidia, AMD had to push the voltage and clocks higher than the architecture should have gone. We don't want to see this again.

Ill take a vega gpu with a die shrink. Vega 56 is still a nice upgrade for me.

The real question is, if it will be faster than Titan Xp and consumes less energy per framerate. If it can't, it better has to never come into massive production. Time will tell. Will AMD take the smile of Huang's face, or he will ROFL again.

Power Consumption was OK. Manufacturing cost of Vega with 6144SP would cost more than Fiji with 8192SP. As Vega 64 has quite more transistors to give same 4096SP as Fiji. Yet from Experience, everyone here knows that little downclock (5~10%) and downvolt can bring power down by 30~50%. So there could have been Vega 96 in Vega 64 thermal envelope while performing like 35% better. Not really worth the cost.

For that AMD GPU should get in shop... Right now i only have seen a single Vega 56... and the client were pissed to have paid it the price of the Titan Xp for the perf of a GTX 1070... So much things to do for AMD ... πŸ™

There are Vega 56's for sale here now, and there prices are coming down slowly. Almost on par with the 1070 ti in price. $650 upwards.

How do you get more performance per clock? It would take a whole new architecture or at least more computing units in existing architecture, making the GPU more costly to manufacture. Clocks, however, are totally free performance, so the higher they can rise, the better, assuming the power draw doesn't get ridiculous. AMD is lacking behind Nvidia in clocks, which means Nvidia gets more of that free performance out of its GPUs.

I'll shoot: Vega is named based on number of CUs, so this is likely Vega with 20 CUs. So it is something like GPUs made for intel.

Yeah a higher end version of the current Vega iGPU's would be my guess too unless it's Vega 2.0 but they are naming them after the CU's so it's probably integrated again. What else can they do with Vega 64? Die shrink might allow for lowering voltage a bit and maybe push clocks. Perhaps some better binned HBM2 modules but there's likely still a shortage so reaching the original 1 Ghz spec could be a problem though in testing the GPU's aren't as bandwidth limited as it was assumed and it's bottlenecked in other areas such as those ROP's and geometry in general although better than earlier GPU models. πŸ™‚ A new architecture is probably a better focus for a die shrink than trying to tweak the existing Vega one though we'll see I guess, probably going to take a while and NVIDIA will probably have their new consumer cards on the market before AMD. (And then Vega might actually be affordable again. Heh, as if. :P )

NAVI should be the one with big changes, but that will not be until next year. @Koniakki : True but so many reasons for the prices to be so whacky, MSRP was thrown out the window for both makers. But good to see prices moving down a little.
