The rdna2 igpu should be faster than this.

Sadly no 🙂 on other hand it's not the duty of a iGPU to be so strong (i mean relatively compared to this GPU lol) If you want a review of the RX 6400 you can found some review of the WX 6400 (the pro version) with regular radeon driver, it's just a 6500 but slower and with the same limit (and also a total no go for HTPC due to lack of video support)... it's like the RX 470 4g but with less ability to handle game and even less if not in PCIe 4.0 (as the board is wired in X4) i would have said "not bad" but compared to what we do in 2022 and the price: exept for office, internet and fortnite... Also rdna2 igpu limit the speed of your PCIe to X8 (as all prededent gen sadly) and so limit the bandwith if you need a RX 6900 as an exemple.

And here I was, thinking that the 6500XT were the worst GPUs of 2022. But somehow, AMD managed to make it even worse.

RX6500 are already pure silicon garbage, especially on upgrade purpose (due the PCI-E 4x limitation). What's the purpose of these crap, fighting against WARP driver?

I cannot imagine that someone would buy 6500 or 6400 to play tier1 titles. Maybe these low end cards would suit perfect to someone with 3 60hz monitors running on a server… like on my second desktop where i run my virtual machines doing preparation for my networking exams… cli and some text editor on 1, monitoring gui second, vm and other stuff on third monitor… without a need to look for usb egpu and so on just to be able to connect more screens. And if i have time for gaming, i have a 3080ti for that. Kind win win… vendors dont give money to throw garbage and we dont pay much for something we use for daily home office tasks… less power used and maybe extending a hw life of our premium hardware we own 😀 I just tried to look at this from another point of view without to hate from beginning 😀 kind positive mood today.

I'm pretty sure AMD have the capability to make iGPUs far faster than what they've been making, even now they're relying on higher clock speeds and 8CUs over the 3400G with 11CUs and slightly lower locks. I'd much rather see an 8-core/16-thread chip with one CPU module and a GPU module connected to their on-die northbridge, with everything communicating via infinity fabric. They could surely do something that way with 16 or more CUs for greater GPU performance. There'd definitely be a (sizeable) market for it.

I can already see amd doing something like that in the future actually replacing the 100-150$ lowest end gpus segment with igpus.

I'd buy one. My initial plan with my Ryzen 2600 was to upgrade down the line, but my damaged RX580 and GPU prices makes me rethink my priorities. I'd rather pay 300€ for a better CPU with an equivalent GPU than paying 300€ for a shit 100€ worth GPU.

I can imagine a product like this (6400) being made out of two reasons: - because they put anyways defunct chips onto already present PCBs to at least make some money off of that, or - they've lost their minds. In times of global shortages of components and resources required to manufacture even the most basic things like the silicone, the PCB, or any EUV chip itself (neon gas), it's almost a crime to waste anything on such a GPU that, arguably, is so bad that it doesn't make sense to game on it (remember, it's worse than a 6500!)

Depends on what you define as "worse". This will obviously perform worse than the 6500XT, but it's less stupid of a product. The 6500XT was bottlenecked by both memory and PCIe bandwidth, and required a PCIe power connector. Even if it wasn't bottlenecked by those things, it was overpriced. The 6400 die is slow enough where the bottlenecks won't be so egregious. It should be powered by just the motherboard, and hopefully it'll be a lot cheaper.

Yeah, but at this performance, it's probably competing with AMD's own APUs with RDNA2.

apparently AMD is taking the competition from Intel seriously 😎 🙄

Thinking HBM Vega iGPUs would be the future...then thinking that RDNA2 iGPUs (as featured in Xbox & PS5) would be the future...then silicon shortages...then the release of the RX 6500...and now, the RX 6400... https://emoji.gg/assets/emoji/9060_doomer_wojak.png

Must not be a significant shortage if they're going to use (waste) resources on this junk 😱.

I bet the WARP driver is better on the new upcoming EPYC with that gazilion of cache than this card :V So it's even useless on servers XD
