it all depends on when nVidia will release their new card series. Hopefully rumours are correct and they are coming out later this month. That would be really good news for "Green Team"
Its only the proper 680 thats coming this month (Titan), their next series isn't coming out until after AMD's.

HD8000 series has already been released. It's an OEM series. Did anyone pay any attention to the statement from AMD?
"Yes, I made that comment. I cannot say anything more than what I’ve already said, really. AMD and its partners are happy with the HD 7000 Series, and it will continue to be our emphasis in the channel for the foreseeable future. I should note that HD 8000 Series has never been so much as hinted at for a channel release. Anything to the contrary is an unsubstantiated rumor fabricated to drive traffic. " - Robert Hallock
Channel = Retail

From the ever so trusted and correct Wikipedia 🙂 HD8870 (OEM) = HD7870 Ghz Edition HD8950 (OEM) = HD7950 Boost Edition HD8970 (OEM) = HD7970 Ghz Edition These all have, according to the tables, the exact same performance specs between the HD8xxx OEM and the HD7xxx equivalents listed (note that is it the Boost and Ghz edition on the HD7950/HD7970, but the 'standard' HD7870, as in the non-Tahiti LE model). I'm not sure whether it's an error in the table or whether it is the actual case, but from some reason the HD8870 (OEM) has slightly lower power use than the HD7870 (bios tweaks or circuitry change?), but apart from that it is identical. Not sure why AMD are confusing people with the OEM model numbers
It may be that AMD is doing what the OEMs want, like what NVidia did with the 300 series that never entered the channel. The 300 series was nothing but rebranded 200 series cards. In fact, AMD has even denied there being any mention of releasing an HD8000 series to retail....inside or outside of AMD. It's possible that due to the HD8K OEM versions, that AMD will instead release an HD9K series to the channel to avoid the confusion.

I do not remember any of those bogus 300 series cards making its way to shops, e-retailers etc. it was just in prebuilt pc`s and such. nvidia went to the 400 series for retail cards and I would expect amd to go right to the 9000 naming scheme.

Exactly. Based on OEM requests, NVidia rebranded 200 series cards as 300 series, shipped them to OEMs and the channel skipped to the 400 series. As long as the situation is handled in this way, I don't see an issue since the information is very easy to find on AMD's website and they are clearly listed as OEM products.

And why should AMD or NVIDIA be in the market to bring us newer and faster graphics cards when the ones they have currently are more than we need anyways due to this bs console ports. Until a new era comes out with gpu in a few years all 3d cards will be like the 2d era of the matrix cards being king then all can max it out with ease. Bit Mapping is the future I think

Bumping this old thread to ask if there have been any updates of when we can expect the (real) 8000 series? Or any new cards for that matter. I'm not going to cough up a minimum of $1130 for a GTX Titan and my other options are currently a kick to the balls in form or another. Originally I was expecting Maxwell cards to be available at the same time as Haswell, but it seems like that will be Q2-4 2014 now.
