The guy can't even spell! And what happens if you don't have PubG?

As written, just run any executable named "TslGame.exe".

Uhm...
As stated in the ransom instructions, the first method that can be used to decrypt the files is to simply enter the "s2acxx56a2sae5fjh5k2gb5s2e" code into the program and click the Restore button.

I get that the guys behind PubG are a bit annoyed that Fornite is trashing them and that every man and his dog is now trying to shove a Battle Royale mode in to their game but ransom-ware to get you to play their god awful game... really? PS I am aware that the chances the folks behind Pubg having anything to do with this are slim to zero. (gotta be careful with Pubg's developers they'll sue you for using a frying pan in your game.)

Yeah, he needs a news editor. :P

Speaking of pubg and scams. Looked at eBay last night and the amount of fake gtx 970 cards are through the roof. Some even use pubg in their listing images to appeal to the China crowd

I mean I'm not a PUBG fan but I'll take one for the team.

He gives a restore code in the very same window in case you don't have it or don't want to. Heck reports say you only need to open the game instead of playing it for an hour like it said to.

This is probably the friendliest [real] threat I've ever seen. I'm just trying to imagine someone going to a bank with a ghoul mask and a gun saying in a chipper demeanor, "good evening folks! Don't worry, I'm not here to rob you! I'm just here to demand that you do an hour of community service today, or else you'll never see you family again!"

The question is, is it only locking your files (with rather easy ways out), or is it also downloading a trojan or anything similar right away? At least "they" know you're vulnerable if you get your system contaminated by this locker...

I'm not sure what's the point of the ransomware if they give you the key to decrypt, why bother?

I don't think they actually want to hurt anyone. They could just be trying to exemplify how seriously vulnerable the game's security is, in the hopes that the devs fix it. It's important to actually inconvenience the users, or else nobody is going to care enough to speak up. Think of it like malaria - despite how horrific and destructive it is, nobody cares about it until someone important to them has it.

I dunno, I kind of think of it as a big joke. Probably the end result of some college pranksters who were playing PUBG and had too many drinks. That's not to say that security is not an issue, but probably not the main point of this ransomware.

Useless info of the day: Did you know that viruses started this way? They were non-malicious, self-replicating programs that were written for fun and didn't ruin your day. (Of course that didn't last long.)

They also try to shut down BR games left and right. Pretty weak.

Well this one is not really harmfull if anything a lott of people might get a bit more serius about their security if anything ...

I think a massive, ironically, downfall for PUGB is the fact that they have not released it on PS4 and still keep it just for Xbox. I think that in the long run this will hurt them more as the fan base for Fortnite grows and grows.

It doesn't have anything to do with the game's security though? It's something you get outside the game..

But how does anyone go about getting it? It's not like this is something somebody would intentionally download. Seeing as it is specific to one game, it's not likely you'd accidentally get this from a website or torrent.
