Great news, hopefully prices go down as well across the board.

We need a Guru3D review of a drive with this controller installed before much can be said. Otherwise it's all just theoretical numbers.

I have two 480 GB Mushkin SSDs from several years back that use a Phison controller, and also a not that old 480 GB MyDigitalSSD BPX M.2 drive. That uses a PS5007-E7 controller. I just noticed that that's on sale. But the new one can be had at this same price!* They use a bit more juice than their competition, but they have a totally comprehensive list of features. https://mydigitalssd.com/pcie-m2-ngff-ssd.php#80mm-bpx-m2 Hah, now I see that they added this new controller to their lineup. Not available yet at Amazon. MyDigitalSSD BPX Pro
Called "Phison's best SSD controller to date", the Phison E12 (PS5012-E12) PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe controller incorporates the latest and greatest in engineering technologies to help the BPX Pro deliver best-in-class write speeds backed up by end-to-end data path protection, enhanced error correction, bad block management, and advanced wear leveling to ensure data integrity during high-speed transfers over an extended drive life span.
One more edit. Amazon isn't listing it but it can be found on sale for as low a price as the older/slower generation (the one I have). Only preorders, the release is mid-September. https://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/mydigitalssd-480gb-bpx-pro-80mm-2280-s3-m-m.2-pcie-3.1-x4-nvme-ssd-mdnvme80-bpxp-0512/ I'm not connected with them, or any company, fwiw. 😉
