Just something else to disable by local group policy editor.

Weren't the widgets already in Windows Vista?

Microsoft further promises that there will be no ads in this overview (for now), and the function can also be turned off.
Good, that's all I want from this. Also no ads "for now". Ads are the last thing I want in a system I already paid for.

Im still in believe they should rather fix performance issue or boost performance in general on windows than pushing new features most people won't bother to use anyways.

Your data is being used for ads across the board in any case. And there "for now" means - there will be ads for sure down the road.

What type of performance issues?

How to burn resources. People have either a game or a browser open and i think no one wanted this. I wish the changelog was more technical and clear, i still struggle to find one that tells you what changed in the window major updates

iirc they removed widgets because of security reasons. Now they are back? *shrugs* Still waiting for the custom Win10 setup (like Win95/98?) they promised for I think 21H1 or H2.

well that wont be getting used any more than Bing, Edge or Cortana, Games mode Xbox etc in other words anything I need to route via MS apart from updates even driver installs are not automated

Things like this: https://www.techradar.com/news/windows-10-update-is-reportedly-causing-system-lag-and-serious-crashes, the typical bloatware / not necessary background tasks which are known to decrease performance and a working game mode that does actually improve gaming instead of hurting it. These kinda issues.

Widgets... Now, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time... A long time.

We need unified settings, unified UI, more privacy control and less bloatware, not widgets. I miss old Win2000Pro days, eh.

The reason why widgets were not secure before, was that any 3rd party software developer could make and integrate one. Given that there was practically no vetting or checks back then, you can imagine what a headache it must have been for MS to try to secure it. If MS only allows their own content this time around, they shouldn't have this issue. In any case, I'll disable it as soon as it rears it's ugly head. I hate intrusive stuff like this.

I hate to unnecessarily increase my attack surface. So almost the same reason. 😉
