Good to know, hopefully less $hitty console ports! Looking forward to better coded and optimized games...

Aren't we doing so all the time, after every such surveys? 🙂

True, unfortunately... Were still receiving loads of updates/patches and bug fixes for 90% of games... Back in the day, you simply install a game and it's ready to play. There wasn't any need for patches/updates... It's the developers job to make a game right from the start, not after several patches, some being a few gigabytes in size.

tbh, back in the day making games was not nearly as complex as it is today.

Lets hope it will stay that way. 🙂

Yeah... you installed a game and it worked. Don't remember patching much in the early days of my pc gaming 'career'. Even if so, there were a few patches, maybe three of four. It's not like you buy a full priced title and have 6 patches in the first three months, or three patches before you have a single playthrough... Of course games have become more complex, that's true. But, on the other hand, they usually get quite some amount of money (all cross platform release crap, so millions of revenues), and with the complexity you'd expect the testing improved too. Unfortunately, it actually was quite the other way... less testing with increasingly complex games.
Except Ubiport :P
What's that? Have I heard from them before? Have they done any PC games at all? 🙄;)

Those days were when Developers really focussed on the PC genre rather than console > port to PC. I miss those days. Gaming quality was great with less emphasis on gfx then too and some of the titles were just outstanding. I still remember being blown away by the original Black and White from Lionhead.

hmmh games always could have used patching. Memories grow sweeter with time. Surely some of the devs have been doing pisspoor job but really games were broken back in the day too they just weren't patched. And of course there were outright broken games released back in the days too.

Yeah it was a funny game, too bad it somehow didn't keep me captured quite that long. Tried to feed my lion on wheat, made him puke all the time, and still the stupid humans picked it up and brought it to their granary, soiling every bit of normal grains... stupid humans. 🙄

That's true. I remember quite some games having patches, but something like a day one patch to me was a sign of unfinished testing even back then. Today every major title gets such an hour zero patch downloadable right after you install the game, it's become habit to spend even the last days to work up patches. While that sounds good, it still feels like it just wasn't that needed... less broken graphics, for instance. And there's still crashes on games, lost save games and everything these days...

Year after year after year, empty promises. i hope DX12 will be very good for PC gaming, and developers would kick more ass instead of being lazy. A high quality game developed from zero to PC, that uses a lot of the enhancement PC can offer, would be treated way better than some "ok I MUST MILK THIS GAME MORE" port.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/258/258664.jpg
Unfortunately, DX12 won't be around widely until the next console generation supports it I think... I can't even imagine a AAA title really making full use of everything the pc platform has to offer. Not anymore 🙁

Devs are full of crap. PC will never be the top priority as long as xbox and playstation are on the market.

It's all costing that gives us these crummy "one game on every console known to man" ports. The design teams are bigger, the technology far more advanced and of course the marketing teams and budget. I saw some crazy figures spent on marketing for things like Destiny and that money is going to come back from somewhere, hence the quick port to anything they can. It's just a shame that a couple of adverts in a magazine, playable demo (preorder beta i think they call them now) and word of mouth that used to sell games is gone. Now it's just run like films with ridiculous marketing and that "get as much money as quickly as possible before they find out it's actually a turd" attitude. I love my PC games, but in days of late I'm finding less games I want to play. When i first started PC gaming it was pretty cut and dry between consoles and PC's, you rarely had a game on both systems which gave me a wealth of entertainment and now it just feels like i can play a broken game with ****ty gameplay in a higher resolution. I miss the PC exclusives just like I miss the console exclusives, its just the same game in a different box pretty much.

I have no consoles there so inferior in so many ways. But as some already pointed out consoles will be priority one for developers and publishers, so we get crappy ports to PC. This won't change at all with DX12 i can't believe people have short memory's with last generation of consoles, as long console with current hardware run DX11 we will not see much improvement in games who stay for a long while DX11 and its limitations because there crappy hardware we get crappy ports. Result ive not bought any games in past 8 months. This will prolly not change i just buy some cheaps on GOG.COM and ignore all offered on steam(7years time ive bought 32 games on steam) and crappy ports. I dont see a bright future for PC at all. I got a 2500 euro game system but there are no games on market that validate such system a good midrange system can handle all games on market very well. But i will never buy a console because PC gets crappy games and console ports i rather stop playing then play with inferior machine and controller. Mouse/Keyboard Forever!!!

As much as you want to complain of the consoles hardware limitations, consoles still have the better games. Simple as that. So drop the whinging of hardware specs, its irrelevant, its an obvious weak argument and makes as much sense as blaming COD and Gear of War for ruining fps and thirdperson games. On pc, you wont find an fps to rival KZs single player campaign of which is more "Old school shooter" than pc gamers want or can admit to, or match Uncharteds epicness, nevermind TLOU. Then there's Nintendo's pure fun titles, older games from the GC and further back. PS2, xbox classics and hidden gems, same goes for the PS360 lesser known games. Theres more fun to be had on a wi-u than any other platform at the moment. Nintendo are the only one who ever do anything different. Yet gamers complain nintendo dont innovate enough and then say that the only way they'd ever buy a Nintendo console would be if the had more third party games like COD, AC, FC etc etc. You know, those titles that never change. The pc is lacking in worthwhile content. Which is most obvious when you look at how many people pre-order games like FC3/4, AC, WD, COD, GTAV, Fallout 3/NV, indie titles that are also on consoles and so on. What does the PC have over the console in terms of gameplay? Elite: D? Star Citizen? a bunch of classic exclusives that were released before '08, '06? The older i get, the less im interested in trouble shooting any issues that are not caused by modding. While i expect the absolute minimum of pc features to be 60fps, 1080p+, proper AA support and multi gpu support, stable day 1 release. Theres only so much that makes the pc all that better. If theres anything keeping me in the PC game at the moment, its emulation.

And then we're back at the devs preferring making games for consoles rather than taking time and money to do a proper pc game. Because they of course make a lot more money with console games and ports rather than a pc game not showing up on consoles. The only true pc games left are those from second tier devs / publishers, becase 'aaa' titles always are console orientated, haven't seen much else lately.

Mind you this is loads of devs. Not only the big ones, indies too for them pc is the cheapest choice. Pc market is saturated with indie games good and bad.

Yep, it's easier (and far more profitable) to make a game once and sell it on as many platforms as possible with minimal effort. Why make a game for ONLY one platform when you can make a game that doesn't use anything too advanced and stretch it over everything for probably not a huge amount on top of making it for a single platform. Indie games are also hit and miss for me on PC, some I'm looking forward too (Satellite Reign) and others just seem to be shoving crafting into anything possible with "retro" 16 bit visual which work for one or two games but the number of them now is just... nah. It's also a shame that the games I do look forward to are made by the teams who made the originals (Elite, Satellite Reign by the Syndicate team, Wasteland etc.) and I have little interest in some of the others for said reasons above. As **** as Crysis is... it still pushed the PC envelope on release and took me back to a time when PC's HAD games of a technical level like that.

Yeah, there's little nuggets of gold with indie games (ffs gotta love playing my FTL 😉), but then again there's so many of them on steam that I don't even bother checking out most of them anymore. Maybe the cryengine's model of paying a small but fixed amount per month might not be so bad after all, if used by indies to give their sometimes better games a nice polish too, and sadly, it's what still catches the eye and heart of some casual gamers.
