You can only stay a peasant so long before you decide it's time to play with the big boys.

Its funny but true, PUBG is that PC game that makes lots of console people to get PC. On 1 forum where majority of people are console gamers I see them getting PCs just for PUBG.

Yeah, while I'm not a fan of the game, it's good for PC gaming. Just watch and see how in the next 2-3 years all the major AAA studious will try their take on the battle royale bandwagon.

...so my decision to cash all my chips in and set up shop as a gaming monitor & accessories specialist might have some merit to it. That'll please the wife.

I usually get my friends that have say an Xbox to build a PC this way... You know Halo and Gears of War are on PC? Little do they know...Hardly anyone plays Halo 5 on PC. I mean there is CE that has a huge community still, and Eldewrito gearing up its next release. Heck even H2V is coming back slowly. There are a few games though that you do need a console for. Zelda, Mario, Kingdom Hearts, just to name a couple. If only KH3 would come to the Switch as well!

I wasn't aware PUGB was a PC-only title. But yeah, I'm sure it has helped transition people. I figure Overwatch enticed people too. Funny thing is I've been a PC gamer for roughly 15 years and I don't own PUGB or Overwatch, but, I am a little interested in getting PUGB - it's one of the most refreshing ideas I've seen in a very long time. I also suspect Ryzen has helped increase PC sales. A lot of people for a while were holding onto their Sandy Bridge or Piledriver CPUs waiting to see if AMD made anything worth waiting for. Once the results were out, people formed their opinions, and both AMD and Intel got more sales. I'm sure next year will be a very good year for PC sales too, because by then the mining craze should die down (and hardware should be made available/affordable again), Intel will have new and more competitive products for a better price, and AMD will have APUs and maybe "Zen 2" (which some people seem to be waiting for).

In my experience, that doesn't work out so well. I know people who have gaming PCs and still prefer to play games like Halo on Xbox, because that's the platform all their friends play on, and, they already bought the license. I found the most effective way to get people to convert is showing higher detail levels, at 60FPS (or more, but for console players 60 is plenty good enough). As much as people like to claim "it's gameplay that matters, not the graphics", seeing the same gameplay but better in every way makes people a bit envious. With all the streamers out there, it's not hard to find someone's favorite console game and show what it could potentially be. So yes, that means Halo and GoW can be included in that demonstration, but it's the demonstration itself that get people interested. Then once you got their attention, then you bring up stuff like mods, no monthly subscription fees, custom servers, potentially faster load times, emulators, being able to switch controllers, and the various benefits of Steam. Tell them you can build a gaming PC that can match or outperform their console for roughly the same price, and you just might have converted someone. EDIT: I would say exclusive titles would be a good way to entice people, but in most cases, console gamers aren't interested in PC exclusives, because they either require too much of an investment (MMOs), are too "adult" (RTSs), or are too casual (card games).

Well Halo 5 is not on PC. Except for the Forge Editor. Not that it's that played on Xbox anyway. Gears is yeah. I think it was a good decision by MS to start making their first party xbox and pc exclusive.

Nobody plays 5 Forge on PC...Which is weird to see because there were a lot of people that wanted Halo 5 on PC, and Microsoft brings it plus a Custom Server browser and hardly anyone plays it. Would love to get some MLG or SWAT going on it, but no stats to be tracked and no interest...

It'll be interesting to see how successful Pubg is on X1/X. It's going to be 30fps. With so many AAA games ending up being 30fps on X1X and PS4 Pro, I think theres a lot of gamers willing to jump over to PC gaming, especially those who care about 60fps+.

Sounds about right. I know a couple of youngsters who are into the PC gaming scene. One of them bragged about building her own PC earlier this year and the other often talks to me about his latest component purchase. I think the rise of streamers and the eSports scene is driving a lot of young people towards PCs.

I guess that we are building e-sports machines at schools also helps on those numbers.

I bet a decent bump was the fact there has been some CPU competition where 6-8 cores is now a reasonable purchase. I bet when Intel's mainstream 6 core i.e. 8700k lands we will see another bump. I know I have heard a lot of people talk about the small performance increases over the last 5 years and wanting more cores so I bet this has some to do with the sales increase. Pubg probably has a lot to do with it as well 🙂

People are finally realizing that Console gaming has it's limits and a Budget Gaming PC is not that much more expensive these days. Plus people like Terry Crews getting others to try a build their own PC because if Terry can do it then so can you.

It's not, but during the early access it is. It'll be on xbox one, not sure about PS4. It's pretty sad, hopefully the console versions fail miserably.
