I thought nvidia was getting out of arm and doesnt this require that you be conncted to a computer to play computer games?

Not ARM altogether, i think its only the mobile/smartphones section rumours say they are planning a shield tablet, and this year some brands are releasing tablets with TEgra K1 chips, like xiaomi and (rumored) nexus (8?) / mocha(?) Well the other tegra chips were powerfull for gaming but they didnt were popular and failed to go mainstream for a couple of reasons. Tegra K1 changed things a bit, i hope it succeeds, this chip its something to show for, mainly for mobile gaming.

Haha, You think Nvidia would have learned to stay away from this type of thing. We all know what a masterpiece the SHIELD was. LMFAO!!!!!!

What exactly has Tegra K1 changed? Mobile devices live or die by their price tag. NVidia thinks everything they produce is "premium" and as such demands a higher price than the mobile markets will support. That's why NVidia has failed in the mobile market thus far. People aren't going to pay $500-$1000 for an Android tablet just because it has a Tegra chip in it and device makers aren't going to decrease their own profits to keep their prices competitive. Basically, because of NVidia's own arrogance, Tegra K1 will ultimately be yet another flop.....

Tegra K1 uses kepler and in among other things compatible with directx 11, tbh i dont know all the details around that, but porting PC to android is now easier than ever and real. Trine 2 and serious sam 3 are already running smoothly on tegra k1 devices, and imo thats a good thing. And the problem isnt always price with nvidia, if you recall the nexus 7 from 2012 had tegra 3 and was a great tablet and cheap. And even mipad from xiaomi is around 230€ with Tegra K1, powerfull and cheap. Sure, i dont agree with the "shield" crap and nvidia branded tablets, they tend to inflate the prices for, as you say, "premium" device. And the "stream the games from pc" part, i also hate. But the fact is, i tried various ARM socs in tablets and tbh snapdragon and nvidia are usually the powerfull ones. at least in android, apple also has powerfull chips. But if most selled brands (like huawei) use cheap mediatek/other crap, samsung has their own chips, apple also wants their own chips, well.. its not easy to get a tablet with an nvidia chip inside. Another problem its the brands mentality, they seriously want ridiculous high resolutions in tablets and smartphones, THAT retardness cripples the raw power in ARM chips. A tablet with 1080p + Tegra K1 would be more than enough to enjoy some great games.

Slash your prices.

Tegra Note 7 was cheap on release.. Anyway the K1 is a lot more appealing than the competition, I'd like to see more of its kind.

The problem is not the price of the tablet it is the price Nvidia sold their chips. and the fact that company like Qualcomm slash their price, because they can do it with the volume of chips they are producing and sell ( as explained by Nvidia CEO ).. Its not voluntary by Nvidia, but they cant cut in the SOC price like other actors. So at the end the day, Nvidia have got not enough tablets / phones who include Tegra. And if you dont sell them, you lost money and you dont cover the developpement costs. As for the K1, well, we will see how things evoluate . I hope things will move on the right direction.
