there's already multiplayer in VR but this is the first time people can share the same play area which is kind of cool, I can see why they went with vive to do it what with oculus lacking the front camera would be a bit awkward if something went wrong with everyone bumping into each other.

Finally a reason for Triple and Quad-GPU cards/setups !

The only thing I'm interested about in VR for real for now, is the latency improvements and rendering tricks like warping it can bring to normal rendering. Until the point where headsets can do 4k120 and cost ~$100, VR will be a niche.

I just want a holodeck. Hitting up virtual chicks with Commander Riker...

Might still be a niche but it's hella fun, i'd rather enjoy my VR now than wait 20 years for the tech to improve, but if you're willing to wait till we have 4k120 vr that costs $100 then I admire your patience.

Fact is I wasn't really thrilled by what we have now. A nice gimmick, but there are other places that could benefit from those $600 + $200 for gimmicky games much more.

Thing is I haven't even bothered with standard games other than playing the occasional game of FTL since picking up the Oculus Touch, I don't think there's one day I haven't used VR since December and that's saying something, most of the games i've played are far from gimicky, games like Chronos, The Edge of Nowhere, Supershot, Roborecall, Wilson's Heart, Dirt Rally, Elite Dangerous, all these games make VR something special and then there's VorpX where I can play Skyrim and Biosock Infinite and tons of other games in full 3d in VR but yeah I get your point, gimicky games.

Look at the photo and place price tag on this system. Yes, it will be like 20~30 times higher than what AMD pushes. AMD = VR for masses nVidia = VR for 0,0..01%

If you read the article you can clearly see this isn't for the masses, this is made for commercial usage, consumer VR requirements are minimum Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD 290 so yeah not exactly powerhouses, this system is designed to run mulitpe VR headsets together.

I wonder if one of the founding members of that VR tech is Akihiko Kayaba...

Already available for manufacturing This technology already exists in the manufacturing market in a product called TechViz Collaborative. Cheers, Curt P.S. Because I am new to the forum, it won't let me post the URL. :frown:
