I'm hoping for a "real" upgrade from 1080Ti. It's probably not going to happen yet but that's what I would like to see.

There's gonna be A LOT of really pissed RTX users if Nvidia releases some sort of better, cheaper, shrunk RTX series. Before you say that it cannot happen, remember Maxwell.
Why would they be mad "they"had to know this would be a very fast refresh cycle. You don't exactly expect to have a 754 mm2 die and not shrink that sucker down quickly. Nivida basically screamed don't buy this generation of RTX cards with the pricing they used. I along with many already expected a fast die shrink to 7nm in under 18 months because of the cost to make that large die and the costs of this generation of cards. Today we will likely only hear about some 7nm goodness relating to Tesla cards.

Finally Titan RTX 3000 picture has been leaked : https://i.imgur.com/8Wlp9bx.jpg *joke* Most likely will be all about Volta and new 7nm incoming proffesional gpus, focused on AI.

Remember maxwell? Nothing wrong before or after maxwell The same statement is made every single time a card comes out that beats a titan for a fraction of the price, be in 6 months after or 12, there's always someone who will say "Oh those (insert product here) users are gonna be pissed!" Guess what happens every time? Little to no one complains. If you remember any of it being a big issue in the past, that's a you problem.

its no secret that there is no mad rush to the rtx cards. so you really think they would even mention future desktop cards? the livestream is all Ai and dgx blah blah blah they are making robots (yeah yeah) a yawner for me like most of the time but you geeks might like it

I think this whole gen for nvidia was just to push out new tech in the same way that AMD originally launched the fury with hbm it's a proof of concept to see if it catches on and makes a difference. All the rtx cards atm are side grades when looking at performance per dollar with added rtx capabilities I dont think they intended to sell alot or make alot ot money on this series. I would not be surprised if they decide rtx isnt worth it and drop it already.

Definitely not getting dropped, as it is the future. If they drop it now they'll just have to start it up again within 2 years, as ray tracing isn't going away, and will become the norm. Only way ray tracing cores, or dedicated hardware for ray tracing, goes away, is if the tech in FP32 and INT32 performance drastically increases to the point dedicated hardware is no longer needed (borderline impossible) or if the dedicated hardware simply gets combined with the rest of the GPU and tasks not only on ray tracing but other parts of the game as well, getting rid of the "technical" dedicated hardware for ray tracing, even though it's still, also technically, there. Next generations of nvidia GPUs will likely not have "some with RT cores, some without", unless it's a rebrand and low end GPU. If not by next generation, as i said likely, it's pretty much guaranteed by the generation after that. I literally would be willing to bet my life savings on that, as nothing else makes sense.

yeah, coz the 285 didn't go and do exactly that and everyone lost their minds then (not).

Unfortunately for Nvidia they've pretty much already set their pricing : performance with the RTX. To release another series offering greater performance but at significantly lower selling point would not sit well with a significant many, and ask some awkward questions. AMD, on the other hand, have a very real opportunity. The ball is most certainly in their court providing they can deliver on price : performance. The buying mass is generally a sensible beast and tends to buy wisely once they're informed. Here's hoping for both Navi (in all it's forms...high end too) and Matisse.
Remember that time nvidia replaced and cut $250 off their high end single gpu card within 6 months? i do. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/247515315825672203/557541367606280193/unknown.png

yes but they had to cut prices of the 280 for only 1 reason....4870.they gave out rebates because people got so screwed the 285 was a cheaper made refresh now they are incohoots with amd and have been since 2009 on prices
Have a free tinfoil hat! Don't worry i guarantee there are no pockets with wires appearing out of it!

the evidence they provided to support price fixing was dismissed. Further
However, the federal grand jury hasn't been able to find any evidence that the two graphics rivals actually fixed GPU prices, and it has communicated that finding to the judge presiding over the class action lawsuit. In acknowledging that news, Judge William Alsup has limited the scope of the class action suit to consider only graphics cards sold directly from both companies to consumers. Since Nvidia has never sold any graphics cards to consumers itself, but instead sells its GPUs and chipsets only through graphics card business partner OEMs, that effectively leaves as the lawsuit's only plaintiffs any punters who bought ATI graphics cards direct from its website.

pretty familiar with the case that does not mean there was no price fixing and it still goes on if there wasn't then amd/nvidia would charge less for a lesser card not the same it was just little wink and its all it took

Even if they preview it and it is a gaming gpu, I wouldn't expect a new generation to come out any time soon. 20 series was just released.
