China has now put severe limitations on crypto https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/crypto-price-live-bitcoin-ethereum-b1849879.html Another thing it can do is simply tweak the great firewall of China so that the p2p side of all the chinese miners is stopped as well, that threat hangs over them mining over there. Bitcoin was originally developed as a p2p finance system, but it still relies, as a currency on companies using it, if the country stop the companies then you can only use it for buying the persons second hand IKEA cabinets ....

Ethereum isn't the only mineable crypto coin, just saying Nvidia. This will do nothing if they can't produce enough.

there's actually a good chance... because Crypto is only half of the reason for the scarcity of next gen cards. the other half was poor forecasting on the part of AIB's, Nvidia, and AMD. AMD had the only valid excuse in the RX 6xxx being a re-entry to enthusiast level cards and they needed (financially) to be circumspect. that reason has since evaporated. but AIB's reduced their production schedules and Nvidia was depending on an orphan process from Samsung that has a limited fab. plus, the suppliers to both TSMC and Samsung had created disruption to the supply chain as they're too small to ride out a pandemic. this didn't affect AMD because those orders were already fulfilled by the supply chain in Taiwan. the supply chain in Korea was an entirely different story with disruption in the middle of production. 2nd-4th qtr 2021 (and beyond) is a different story. both TSMC and Samsung have made moves to alleviate the pressure on their supply chain with direct assistance/investment. once Taiwan gets past this temporary vaccine shortage there it will be full speed ahead. this also applies to Taiwanese AIB's (like Gigabyte).

This is to scare people in selling there coins, the rich are playing with people. It is a repeatable cycle over the past 10+years. Anyone with coins hold onto them. Also I am not sure why so called PC games thinks it there right to own a GPU over anyone else but hey you may have a chance to buy a mining GPU soon,so good luck buying a GPU.

it's their* Don't you worry about the rich, they will move on to other speculative "pastures" after crypto boom crashes again. As to "why so called gamers" would want a gaming gpu over miners, I don't know, maybe... to like... to GAME on it? Mind boggling isn't it?

GPU mining is the best use for GPU. Imagine getting a free GPU from GPU mining to play games. Mind boggling isn't it?

I wonder what's nvidia smoking these days, if miners can buy utility power plants to mine, in the US they have the means to reverse engineer and rewrite drivers & firmware, they probably do that already to improve their margins, as long as they get the physical hardware in hand, there's nothing nvidia can do to control what they do with it other than hurting their resale profit by removing video ports which ends up hurting gamers looking for cheap cards... oh yeah that must be it, all this CMP/LHR bs is just a façade

Yeah, this is the best news in recent years !
absolutely 🙂:) plus all the ecowarriors out there can be happy that China realized it was using the electrical power of a large city (incl. factories) that was just to power mining rigs. given that the price of electricity is artificially low due to subsidies, this equals the output of a few coal fired power plants. and then there is the control-freak nature of totalitarian regimes... far too much freedom with no oversight to allow one of their citizens. they want to make money the old fashioned way, corrupt sweetheart deals with no accountability.
