The Ti replacement will probably come around in December. Lets hope the big one comes out around this time soon. So basically if you got a high end card it's a waste of money. We have to wait for the real performance bump because this is pathetic. Nvidia pushing 4k gaming yet fails to deliver the hardware to do it, waste of time. Unless you buy Tri or Quad sli one again. Roll on GM200.

780ti is not getting replaced any time soon. I mean, its price hasn't budged for like half a year now.

"980 will be faster than the GeForce GTX 780", well that's stating the obvious - I should hope so! The question is...will it be faster than a 780ti, and by how much!

Dual gpu single card Maxwell.... possible? Kepler dual(not titan) wheres this also? Need to replace the 780 sli furnace with a dual single card. :knock:

D'uh. 🙄

If the 8GB custom models are out by november-december I'll grab a couple and relax for the next 2 years at 1440p @60fps without fear of going out of vram, and if the gpu power won't be enough... I can always throw in a third. 😀

That's if the 980 is faster than the Ti. I wouldn't hold my breath.

There's not much difference in performance between 780 & 780ti as it stands, at least when I compared 3DMark11 GPU scores between the two. So, knowing that 980 will be faster than 780, then it's not gonna need a huge jump to be faster than 780ti too. EDIT: took a detailed look at 780 vs 780ti performance within the Guru3D reviews, and 780ti is only 10-20% faster than 780 depending on the game, and 16% faster in 3DMark Firestrike result. Having looked at this I reckon 980 will be faster than 780ti, it wouldn't be worth producing & buying a 980 if it wasn't even 20% faster than the 780.

I didn't know they were only 256bit.

256bit is probably not going to be a handicap. With the introduction of the 1st Maxwell card, the 750ti, we saw that Maxwell uses it's memory bandwidth very efficiently due to a large L2 cache - I remember comparisons being drawn which means you can effectively double the bandwidth of a Maxwell card when comparing it against Kepler cards.

Where does 970 fit in then? Slighly slower than 780? I was hopping it will be an interesting card.

Tbh I would take a 780 over a Ti because it can be volt modded up to around 1400mhz with good watercooling in place. ATM it even beats the titan black, the best gpu volt modded and watercooled is the regular titan by a long way. It remains to be seen if the Ti and black be custom volt modded. I ain't seen one as of yet.

I don't know. Looking at the history though of comparing 480 vs 570, 670 vs 580, and 770 vs 680, then what do we get? Again, I looked at some Guru3d reviews to draw comparisons, and the next gen x70 card is always faster than the previous gen x80 card: anything from 5 to 25% faster (670 25% than 580). So, if history repeats itself then I think you can expect the 970 to be faster than the 780. (Actually, this is another good reason to expect the 980 to be faster than the 780ti given the small performance gap between 780 & 780ti, and the need for the 980 to be significantly faster than the 970).

That's impressive! (How much voltage? How much voltage on your volt modded setup? I've volt-modded my little 670MX card, 1.05V up from 0.925V - laptop card of course.)

Could they for once, release the high end memory versions early? I mean... is it that hard?

Is that because you want to sli them? Makes sense to get the largest VRAM version you can for sli, because the cards have more power so can 'use' the full VRAM to effect with high resolutions or multi-monitor, and you'll probably keep them longer too as VRAM min requirements inflate over the years.

Keplar cards 1.3 -1.6v on the fly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDUTmtSraRA&feature=youtu.be Arma 3 GTX 690@1372 & 1359-1.40-1.42v-Volt mod https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ht-ppOK-58c&feature=youtu.be Credit goes to Agent-A01 as i would not have been able to push past 1306mhz without his help. He provided me with the Datasheets to understand how it works and also the specific lines of text in a .bat file to actually get it too work.

What's in the .bat file? Curious.

Was confused as to why it was being called the 900 series as opposed to the 800 series! EDIT: Just found an article explaining it, I was getting nervous I thought technology was moving way too fast for a second.
