If I actually used the power of my Titan X fully, I would consider getting one of these monsters when they release...

You know for a 100$ extra for this card u would think they would have at least used all the component space it looks like they cut down to make the board cheaper but it costs more.

Well there's plenty of space for manufacturers to beef it up. But those usually go with a custom PCB of their own anyway so dunno. Either way, this "reference/Founder's edition" looks very clean. Can't wait to see how it OC's and runs in some actual reviews and if this cooler is truly that big of a deal compared to say a Twin Frozr from MSI.

Arguable. It depends on how long it takes for the 1070/1080 to go from founders edition prices to the base MSRP. Right now it looks like every 1080 card at launch is going to be $700, who knows when they will hit $600.
The rumor is Polaris 10 is going to be $300 ~980Ti performance. Which is a lot better than 1070's $480 ~ Titan X performance.

I can't see how Polaris 10 could hit 980Ti/Fury X performance, unless they really did some magic with the pipeline and the clockspeeds are insane. Not that I would have a problem. :infinity:

I don't see why that's far fetched. It's rumored to have roughly as many cores as a 390x no? Those cores are supposedly improved GCN 1.3/4/whatever number. 390x overclocked by 12% shows roughly a 8% increase in performance according to hardOCP. Clock Polaris 10 at 1400mhz and it should be like 25-30% faster then a 390x, which puts it at Ti levels, especially in DX12 games.
Seems reasonable.
Another way to look at it is from power consumption standpoint. I would imagine that AMD is reasonably competitive with Nvidia with Polaris. 1080 is 180w, 1070 is supposedly faster than a Titan X, I would imagine it's closer to 140w. Polaris 10 is rumored to be ~130w. Seems like 980Ti performance would be achievable if Nvidia is able to beat it with 10w more.

Looks quite bare to me. And for the price premium, they could have at least put a metal shim around the GPU die, for protection.

They should call it Carpenter Edition. Pretty disappointed. Now waiting for 1070, but I doubt they will improve the PCB...

But then it would OC better due to more stable power delivery. Idea is to have lower TDP and no way around it.
AIBs are going to make much better PCBs. And it is likely people will see much better OC on those.

I never understood the "reference" hype. It is more expensive without any serious reason. The custom ones will come with better OC's and quality.

It's less complicated than 980. Although 6 phases vs 5 on 980.

its so funny how most people still dont know the difference between the cooler on the reference model and the founders edition (vapor chamber), and even apply the higher price of the later, to above product, which is just the reference (non founders) edition running a stock (non vapor) cooler...
