My friend that ordered a 3080 on launch date is pissed, he hasn't got it yet. He wanted Legion, got a text message today from the store he bought the 3080 that they're switching his game to CoD. Hell, at this rate it even might be yet a different game by the time he gets his.

"Nobody" can buy 3080/3090... Strange that I had no problem getting Palit 3080 gamingpro OC and Asus 3090 strix OC. 6 friends of mine got 3080 or 3090, so I guess everyone had luck LOL

People get what they pay for. While 3090 price is rather high subjectively, it is because I have no use for it. 3070's performance per $ is rather good. And 3080 is very acceptable in this metric too. It may or may not change once we see reviews for AMD's cards. Problem is availability. While I had no intention to buy one, I was scanning availability here and there. 3080 is super rare in Czech Republic. And 3090 had bit better availability... because people here really think twice before buying that. But still, if one does not care about shop card comes from, it is possible to get even 3080 from some smaller shops.

Not in my book! $550-850 for a low-mid range card is absolutely insane. $150-300 is more like it, but still high. $99-199.99 is where they should be...in a sane world, but as of that "mining craze" ~4 years ago, nothing but utter insanity. Still though, I have not seen any 3000 series card available for sale yet at all, ever, anywhere. So yeah, they basically don't exist anyway.

Those are not midrange cards by neither names, nor performance. 1080p @60Hz is still most common resolution and is what midrange graphics target. At most, one can say that 2560x1080 is new midrange resolution. When Ampere/RDNA2 cards around mentioned $300 come, you'll see what they can do. Considering that last generation $350~400 cards were overkill for 1080p, this time around it is likely going to be even better.

I wonder if that is "what's really going on" with Nvidia. Do they know that AMD is going to kick their butts this time and are holding back production to avoid having tons of un-sellable stock? IE: Milk the suckers for 800-1500 dollars while they can then move on to whatever comes next? It's bizarre is all I know. Thousand dollar video cards that don't actually exist and everyone chomping at the bit to pay that like it's a good deal? Nvidia announcing the release of the 3070 when the 3080 and 3090 still don't exist (I know they exist, but I mean readily available) yet? Just frggin weird. If you "don't have a supply problem, it's just unprecedented demand" to the point the product just doesn't exist in the real world, why would you need to bundle anything with it to entice us?
