Litle bit expansive for its competition Rx 480.It should be equal or little less than rx 480.I think 48o win here
People will buy the 1060 because of nvidia's brandvalue. Kind of like how people buy an Apple product over a competing product, even though the price is double for the same product. Although not completely accurate. AMD have had some serious issues with game performance in some titles, sadly.

Well i expected a higher price , especially since they are 6gb

If this is supposed to be faster than GTX 980 then RX 480 is definitely not going to win...
The media stuff they released make it sound more like it's targeting 980 performance not beating it. The 980 at boost clock is a 4.9 tflops the 1060 is only 4.3 -- that being said, Pascal seems to have higher "hidden" boost states compared to Maxwell's hidden ones. Given what we know about Pascal and how it compares to Maxwell flop for flop I don't think the 1060 will be faster, probably equal or slightly lower.

Some good points (Eurogamer/Digitalfoundry): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjmCaBAV_kU

I actually ninja edited my post and wrote equal or faster.

The only thing the 480 will win at is the power consumption. Just over £200 for a AiB 6gb version that beats a Ref 980 and has 2gb more VRam is win win for Nvidia. Nvidia probably has many 480's in house and because they've had time to look at it then build a 1060 around it and past it in every regard. Only downside i see for the 6gb 1060 over 480 is no future SLI so it's either upgrade to a 1070 which makes sense because £400 is enough to buy a 1070 now but in near future i see the 1070 settling at around £300 for the cheapest version.

... The GTX1070 beats the 480 in power consumption, let alone the 1060. The 1060 is a completely different chip then the 1080/1070. The design was probably done 6-8 months ago. Obviously both Nvidia/AMD look at their competitor designs but it's not like Nvidia looked at RX480's over the last two weeks and go "oh hey if we get a chip out by next month with 1280 cores I think we can beat this thing!" at most they adjusted the clocks but I doubt they even did that.

I honestly think the RX480 is the better purchase. The difference in DX11 is going slightly towards the 1060 obviously, but DX12 should lean pretty heavily towards the RX480. Sure you can probably clock the 1060 higher and make up some of that performance, but I don't think you will ever match it.
Do you realize 1060 is faster than RX480 in DX12? AMD lost the DX12 crown, especially with this dud as RX4** series. A pity there's no SLI even on 6GB version. I had a nice experience of 2xGTX460 - they gave performance higher, then GTX480 for a little less than half a price (well, in my location that was the case). (to AMD fanboys - I am talking about Nvidia GTX480 - something, which has been long before RX480)

... yeah, with 166W consumption RX480 definitely "wins" versus 120W GTX1060. (obviously because "more = better")

249 USD starts for the AIB partners I assume it's the 3GB models. There will be one reference/FE edition at 299. Currently I am waiting to hear back on memory configurations. However I am fairly certain that the FE versions all will get 6 GB. I'll update once I get some answer back from Nvidia.
Thanks Hilbert. Phew! The better part of €100 for what sounds like a few fps. That'll be tough to sell.

Based on what? We don't even have 1060 numbers. We have a tflop number that's almost 10% less then 980 and the RX480 beats the 980 in Hitman and ties in Forza, Ashes and Warhammer.

I was right price for 3 GB is 250$ and for 6 Gb model is 300$ Considering that performance is in GTX980 class , I don't see any reason for buying much slower rx 480 , even if the last is cheaper ,but not much

Update: Initial phase launch will only see 6GB models, which will sit at 249 USD for the AIB partners. The 6GB Founders Edition will sit at 299 USD.
$249 for 6gb isn't bad at all. I figure 3GB aib cards will be ~$219

I can think of a $100 reason

RX480 8gb = $239 GTX1060 6GB == $249 3GB model will be cheaper

This price would not have happened without 480. If only AMD didn't mess up with the PCI-E and added a better cooler... they could have had a major hit. On the other hand, the 192bit bus will hurt performance in higher resolutions.

So about NZ/AUS$700 then.

$300 translates to more than $400 outside murica. AIB cards will cost more I'm sure.

RX480 8gb = $239 GTX1060 6GB == $249
I'll believe that when I can find a GTX 1080 for $599

If throttling rx 480 is 7-9% slower than 980 on average. Stock non throttling is 2-4% slower. How is either much slower tho. And in dx12 480 is faster or on par to 980 except maybe rotr. If 1060 is 50 to 100$ more it costs 25-33% more.

One thing annoys me about GTX1060 and that is the lack of SLI support. I was thinking about selling my 2x EVGA GTX780Ti SC cards for two GTX1060 simply coz of twise memory amount, that is the only thing thats not enogh with 2xGTX780ti SC on higher res, but Sli isn`t supported 🙁 So i might go with 2x RX480 instead, but not unless there are 3d party cards with better coolers, if not i might hold out untill 1080Ti and AMDs cards are released.
