15% in sysmark seems like a huge performance gain! Unless of course they've added gpgpu acceleration and are basically saying the new iGPU is 15% faster than the old one.

The 15% increase will happen by increasing the base clocks by 20% again, so not much improvement most likely.

That ">15%" looks promising. Then you look at that 15% from Skylake to Kaby Lake and realize that it isn't that much promising.

Maybe this Skylake v3 will have i5 with hyperthreading? The whole thing sounds totally pointless to me so soon after Skylake v2 (Kaby Lake), but I guess they want to milk the architecture once more before doing what they should have done a long time ago and increase the core count with Coffee Lake.

LOL at Cannon lake being 4 core part in second half of 2017. I quickly realized that my i5 4 core processor is good only for gaming, but if you dare use anything professionally, more cores is always better.

I think the news entry got it jumbled around the wrong way. Coffee Lake is the 14nm optimized version, and Cannon Lake the 10nm.

Still 14nm, they must be struggling with 10nm. Perhaps the claimed performance increase is a combination of clock frequency and ipc gain

That 15% sounds way too optimistic. Even if they give it with a 4.8GHz base frequency, a quad will still be worse than an octocore, even for games.

This sounds so desperate for attention: "Hey! We know that we have been boring for the past 6 years and milking you like cows, but we keep improving performance using Moore's law on old 14nm tech and keeping cost per transistor down". You don't need a degree in Mathematics to realise if the cost goes up proportionally to transistor count, it keeps the price by transistor low.
Intel, WTF? Can you please sort your 10nm problems asap?
Now with Ryzen knocking on the door, they will be busy sorting it! :banana:

For corporate people, Intel has been in abandon ship mode for quite some time now. The last person to quit was the head of their PC division, after seven and a half years. 10nm has been delayed for a long long time now. Their CEO has missed all of the important new trends that Intel could make a ton of money off of. NVIDIA is making more money from AI software than Intel does. Just let that sink in for a while, all things considering. They don't have any CPUs in smartphones, they stopped their only mobile line that was getting them at least some tablet design wins (the Atom line), the obvious overclocking they seem to be doing post-Skylake seems almost comical and there doesn't seem to be any new architecture in the wind for at least 3-4 years. There is a definition in the dictionary for that. It's called hubris, and despite what a lot of people outside of big corps believe, it happens to everyone, including said big corps that are in the end managed on the strategic level by people and their guesses for the future.

youd think with all the money they have to throw @R&D, intel would be well on their way to figuring out the electromigration & capacitance/barrier problems the smaller nodes are presenting. the coffee lake/cannon lake thing just tells me that theyre still having design/fab issues. dont get me wrong - im all for respinning 14nm if it brings slightly higher clocks. thats great. but this seems like a stopgap measure, & theyre trying to tout it as an answer to zen instead. ::edit:: lmao minister - i didnt see your post, as i was typing mine. you said wat i was thinking...much less nicely than i phrased it :funny:

I'm having flashbacks to the Athlon 64 & Pentium 4 days when all Intel had was pushing clock speeds higher & higher in an attempt to compensate. Intel just wasn't able to keep up clock for clock back then. I'm not surprised to see Intel taking a similar approach with Ryzen hot on their heels. Not to mention the price differences if the recent leaks/rumors are true. Interesting times are ahead for sure!

I like and I agree on what you've said up until now. That said, I do think Intel has core count...not at the TDP, price and maybe performance AMD is planing to push with Ryzen. Fingers crossed.

no IGPU on Zen is a bummer though. I'd kill for a proper Iris like or better GPU in a CPU.
