The initial leaks where probably exaggerated BS. This seems to be much closer to the initial "they will both milk 14nm" idea.

The initial leaks I saw reported ~2500 cores. There were leaks after that of a Ti variant that the ~4000 came from I guess. It's possible that a Ti/Titan (cut down variant of the GP100) launches way later in the year with that many cores. But there is no way that's coming in June.

So are people actually thinking the 1080 Ti is going to launch close to the 1070 and 1080? In the past, the x80 Ti cards have come after the launch of the Titan... *confused*

Look at 6xx series release. I think this is going to follow closer to that. I don't think there will be a 1080Ti. Just a Titan, which will be a cut down GP100, similar to the original Titan. Next year they'll do a 7xx similar release. GP100 on the top, copying the Titan X. 1180Ti will be slightly cut down or w/e the 780Ti was to the Titan X. And the rest will follow.

So, this is the little brother. I don't know why they would bring any 1080-Ti before AMD get something out there. No reason to challenge your own product. Any prospect on Polaris 11 vs 1080 ? VEGA vs XXX-Ti early 2017 ?

Titan X (apparently 28nm) 3072SP and attached stuff. 601mm^2. This GP104-200-A1 (16nm) 2560SP and attached stuff. ~300mm^2. Who is going to bet on transistor density here telling that 300mm^2 chip be next Titan X in full parameters. Or they decided to have transistor density 16% lower than marketed standard. Anyway, even with 2560SP, it will reach Titan X performance as I think it will clock that bit higher.
TSMC's 16FF+ (FinFET Plus) technology can provide above 65 percent higher speed, around 2 times the density

Any prospect on Polaris 11 vs 1080 ? VEGA 10 vs 1080-Ti ?
Polaris 11 is notebook performance part. Polaris 10 is High end notebook/Desktop mainstream part. Vega is Fiji replacement for next year.

I do not see any sense in creating a gaming cards based on the GP100. The third part of the surface of this big chip is occupied by a dedicated DP units, that are useless in gaming cards. It seems that for 1080Ti (may be even Titan), NV will need to create a completely new chip.

Yah I don't think we'll see a GP100 chip aimed at consumers at all. All those DP units would pretty much go to waste. I think PhysX is really the only thing that might take advantage of the DP units. Even then I don't think most PhysX enabled games would saturate the DP pipeline to make it worthwhile that much silicon dedicated to DP. I have a feeling GP104 will greatly cut down the number of DP units. Just like we saw with the Maxwell chips. It just wouldn't make sense for them to keep 2:1 ratio on GP104. If they do that these chips would barely outperform the last generation of Maxwell cards. If they match the design of the GP100 with just 4 GPCs, we'd have 2560 SP Cores & 1280 DP Cores on a fully enabled GP104 part. I think GP104 might end up with something closer to a 5:1 ratio, SP : DP core count. If that were true we'd have 80 SP cores & 16 DP cores per SM. So with 40 SMs total if fully enabled part we could see 3200 SP Cores & 640 DP Cores on GP104. A design like this would make a much more worthy replacement for the GTX980Ti. I just find it funny that Nvidia has kept so tight lipped on GP104 after showing GP100. It makes me believe this chip isn't just a cut-down GP100 chip, it's something different entirely. Will be interesting to see what they cam up with for GP104. Also do wonder what AMD will bring to the table.

Well, I don't get it. Some ppl say that the 1080 is equiped with GDDR5 and other that it'll be equiped with GDDR5x. What's the probability on each?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/227/227994.jpg
Most like just GDDR5.

Some how I see the 1080 ti being based on a completely new chip rather than what this chart is saying. As far as the 1080s go I can see them using GDDR5 rather than GDDR5x mainly because GDDR5x is either not ready yet or very limited in quantity.

So overall nothing special, I have no regrets buying this 980TI when I did good 2 months ago. Said to my self I will never get a 256Bit "high end" gpu on a mid-range perf. die, since its overpriced bs.. All this started with GK104. High-end Nv Volta/Amd Navi looks better and better.. good 1.5 year to go is not that far.. 🤓

100% Agree. Felt the 980-Ti was a great deal, especially with so many changes ahead. Even more with a slight overclock. Looking forward to AMD now. I'll upgrade when the dust of new API, new memory, new Lithography, new architecture settle down.

Hilbert is there any chance we can get higher resolution pictures in articles assuming they're available?

unfortunately, it does... :wanker:

In some of the die photos the cards have gddr5x interestingly enough. Still more then likely they are using gddr5 until autumn or something. But oh boy no point upgrading from current setup on gpu side of things.

People like me with a 600 Series or 700 Series are the only ones going to benefit greatly with an upgrade.

I'd say high GPU 104 model will have GDDR5X and lower model will have GDDR5. Bring on GP100 😀

Seems like it with newer games.
