Intel is a hardware EA.

Nice.
About the price: for those wiling to drop cache (and willing to delid) for Skylake-X another €70 shouldn't be a problem.
Hilbert, it'll be interesting to se review of this thing done by your hand. Did you already contacted der8auer?

No issue with the price either. People that buy a delidding tool are already few and far between, this will be even less sought after. Without a steep price the RIO makes this a pointless invention.

70 for chunk of metal, has to be made of Platinum!

70 bucks for a small piece of metal seems a little excessive to me...

And this is the price we pay for what was until mid last year, an intel monopoly on high end computing. Noone in the right mind would get a Skylake-X system. It's clearly an inferiour product.

Somethibg tells me that price is high because it uses intel's proprietary tech 😀

So a i9-7980XE is about $ 2.000 + delid tool $ 70 + this plate $ 70 makes $ 2.140. An overclock to 4,5 GHz on all cores seems easy and gets you a processer that is almost as fast as the top model 8180 which cost about $ 10.000. Depending on you workload this doesn't seem to be a bad deal. The drawback however is that you have to take a risk of losing the processor in the processes of making it fast. No guts no glory...

Makes me wonder if this is compatible with any of the Corsair AIO liquid coolers considering the back plate thing.
Heh if you are Apple. In the past Apple charged for RAID (selling a separate RAID card because of no onboard RAID) If Apple made a Conventional and not the Trash can style Mac pro with NVMe RAID support they would have a separate card for that.

Yeah, i shoud have said: If you have access to CNC. :/

This thing (naked die) vs delid + liquid metal between die and HIS... I don't think that you gain more than a couple of ºC.

I was under the impression that naked versus just delid wasn't worth it because of the reduced surface area, I bought the EK naked kit for my 4790k last year but since I was getting great temps already after delidding and using liquid metal I didn't bother using it but after watching this I think I might install it.
