Well, at least they were quick to respond to this controversy; Updated: Intel Answers Complaints About Microcode Benchmarking Ban
We are updating the license now to address this and will have a new version available soon. As an active member of the open source community, we continue to welcome all feedback.
I'm sure they got lots of valuable feedback on this, lol.

Intel are the gods of marketing and this statement is clearly stupid and not thoroughly processed. There is something bigger going on and I don't think we will like it.

Intel, as a Californian company, should know better as this is patently illegal and unenforceable in California. but like i've been moaning on about, Intel is run by the marketing folks who likely see (wrongly) this as a way to avoid embarrassment re: Epyc and Threadripper
It's one of the most high tech companies in the world, but it's run by marketing folks who can barely understand their own technology enough to know how to turn on a PC. Those folks really should have meetings with their engineers every now and then, lest they come up with more "brilliant" ideas like this.

They just tried it, it could be big advantage for them, if it would pass.. They still have x86 licence patent trolling trump.. Imagine if would AMD went bankrupt, we would pray to VIA..

If it's not leak news it's something else. Either way, it's driving me further away from getting Intel for my next upgrade.

That's not patent trolling. That's legit. Whether or not patents in general should expire sooner is a different question. But patent trolling is something completely different.

So intel pulled a Trump.. @Sunesha Not sure if u understand what karma means. Its definitely NOT a bitch, as its neither good OR bad, it relates to "your" past life. If "you" were an ass, karma will be too, same thing the other way around. ..

I also question if this EULA even has any power. I don't see how it's legal to silence individual/un-affiliated parties. Furthermore, couldn't Intel be counter-sued for what could be construed as "I paid for this CPU expecting a certain performance level, but I have to degrade that performance in order to remain secure". As far as I'm concerned, this is nothing but a bluff. Maybe Intel knows this isn't going to work in their favor but they want to scare off people creating benchmarks.
Yes. There are actually pending lawsuits against Intel for exactly that already.... They were filed after the first round of Spectre/Meltdown patches. Everyone seems to have missed the elephant in the room. Intel released new microcode but under the original EULA, no one was permitted to distribute the microcode but Intel themselves. What good is a microcode update, if it can't be distributed? lol Intel had to "update" the EULA to permit distribution of the microcode update. That was the entire change to the EULA. Just allowing distribution of the microcode update. They still think they can stop people from benching systems and comparing results pre and post microcode update.

For me this kind of eula has the "don't push this button" label effect. You might be passing front of this button all your life not minding it all....but as soon someone's put the label above it with an arrow pointing at it....it is my lifes purpose to push this button!
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/273/273678.jpg
This eula is not legally enforceable anywhere in the world.

This will only create tremendous interest in what they are trying to hide and the near certainty that the results are not good. EVERYBODY is going to benchmark the updates now, lol.

Well, according to the german site computerbase, if Intel does not scare you with this kind of tactics, wait to see the final price......they are talking about 560 Euros for the 9900k CPU and 440 Euros for the 9700 model........come to Reddit and bring your popcorn with you 😉

I think it is just in anticipation of 7nm EPYC.

Intel really is fugging up lately. And much of it is starting to get really dumb and stupid. like they failed marketing 101. Almost makes you wonder if there that stupid or have something up there sleeves. Like when M$ makes a crap OS only to turn around and make something grate.
Yeah, but that something "great" in this generation is backdooring your system and data mining you. And to be honest. I think intel should have something great ready. Because they still invested money into development over all those years, and you saw tiny improvements with each generation since Sandy. But from my perspective, if they deliver some great CPU, it will tell you how much they milked everyone around for over half decade.

Ever since Ryzen release last year, its been nothing but downhill for Intel. Good competition came at the worst time for Intel. This years security flaws + competition ratcheting things up = potential for large wave of migration from Intel to AMD.

Let's hope so. AMD needs the money to make competitive GPUs as well. Nvidia could raise the RTX prices so easily because AMD has nothing new to offer.
