at an alltime popular 2560 x 1600 resolution
Is this sarcasm? 2560x1440 is popular, but 2560x1600? :3eyes:

It is not a sarcasm, me to, when bought my very first laptop Dell M6500 for the same reason 16:10 screen ratio. And External monitor 30 size, 16:10 too. And would buy 4K equivalent with same ratio if possible in future. Best ratio from my perspective.

Welll, Popular is maybe not the right term if you mean " the most used": But 30" 2560x1600 have alllways been there... way before all the 16/9 resolution we see there. Before the coming of 4K, it have allways been the higher resolution available for monitor . And honestly i have alllways use 30" 2560x1600 ( x2 -x4 ) at work.

Its odd, not sure why 30" only seems to come in 2560x1600. While 1440p comes in 25, 27 and 32.. but not 30".

hmm not much change still from my u3011's no need to upgrade yet...
data/avatar/default/avatar08.webp

I have Dell U3014 30inch. It has gaming profile making the screen go as little as 3ms http://i.imgur.com/hCktzf7.png I will buy the U3017 if it really goes as low as 3ms

What? 1000:1 is great?

Same here. Until they're offering something OLED or QDot, I just don't see the need to keep polishing the turd that is old school LCD "the best we can do is dark gray" monitors.

are you joking? latest 4K tvs now are competing in 7000:1 contrast range. pc monitors are really stuck in the past, same outdated technologies. not even HDR.

1000:1 is fine for monitor, since almost no one will have bright sunlight shining on it (during use), like with tvs. i dont care for OLED, as long as they dont last more than a few years (before losing brightness) quantum dot is bad for the environment (mercury) and not really needed since other brands have similar solutions (IQ wise) that dont need it. HDR might be helpful for games/movies, but not really gonna make a diff for workstation screens.

you are downplaying importance of contrast ratio. it is not about sunlight shining on it, it's about having deeper blacks and brighter whites. dark scenes in games or movies on typical IPS monitors look very washed out, almost grey, where as on quality TVs they look inky black, especially on OLED. this monitor is OK for design work in brightly lit office environment, but that's about it.

the HDR is more like marketing gimmick, at least for now... also between PC monitor and TV things are differents so cant say pc monitor outdated probably lg or samsung can make 4k 120hz panel for PC monitor but again the market that using that still limited, except they can sell it at reasonable price now why PC monitor price is much higher than TV at same size ? there must be a reason, and that not simply because PC monitor have added port, color calibrated only

16:10 is for the big boys.

Finally! A 16:10 monitor instead of 16:9. Yeap, i need vertical space.

Yeah I prefer 16:10 myself too but now with this Dell 27" at 2560x1440 it is nice not to have to deal with black bars in several games. 😀 (And it's still a "bit" expanded both hor and vert compared to 1920x1200 😀 )

Whatever happened to the UP3017Q?

Last thing I heard was that it was delayed until Q1 2017. Most people think it's been canceled. I don't think there was many people willing to spend $5K on a monitor - especially one with OLED tech. You can get a 55" LG OLED TV for cheaper.
