If it's build/software quality is anything like my nighthawk r7000 then I'll skip and go elsewhere. I'm very tempted to dump mine due to all the lost connection issues I get with mine, either than or finally make the jump to DD-WRT for it.

Got an R7000 myself, and can confirm the default firmware is garbage. I switched to Xwrt-Vortex as firmware alternative long time ago, it's super stable and even has better range. http://xvtx.ru/xwrt/

Do it. After going dd-wrt I haven't had any problems with my routers. Just be aware you have to go to their forum to get the latest firmware.
