Exactly, don't see where people are coming up with 400k when it clearly says 400 with no partial people..

Where do I sign up to get one of these babes? 218miles/ charge is 4 times > the best GM offer!!
and 200 less than my 2.0L turbo offers. 😉 'These are the future' Doubt it they feel more like a segway from the future rather than the course of the future, they are a fad until something truly better than the alternative comes along. Of course if they can come up with something that actually does get round the compromise you have to make to own one of these things. - Not environmentally friendly, they don't run on fairy dust and dreams they run on electric power which still has to come from somewhere, the production techniques and materials for the batteries are still stupidly environmentally destructive as well. - They have limited travel distance and the infrastructure isn't there - They have a charge time - Not a great car if you live in apartments, flats or have to park on a public street, I wouldn't have one of these to park on my drive for recharge, you need a garage so not a great solution. - Stupid expensive, not talking about the Tesla exclusively here, even the likes of the Nissan Leaf even with a government rebate the car is so expensive to buy that you will never make up the cost in fuel and tax saving over the life time of the vehicle. Of course if they find solutions to these problems maybe they will be the future but like I said I feel they are a tangent, a fad until something better comes along.

I really want a Model 3 but will not be pre ordering one. By time I would get one, the tax credit will be gone and there will most likely be something else which is just as good. If 400k ppl get this car before me, I won't see one until 2020 at this rate if I am lucky.

I am not defending GM by any means but look up the Chev Bolt. It does 200 miles and is set to come out later this year. 1 year before the Model 3. I do not like the looks of the Bolt, but GM does offer something like it.

I couldn't care less about emissions or whatever, but folks just read something before posting, your energy company's power plants are light years ahead in efficiency compared to the average car, having 2m little moving gas plants vs 10 huge city plants is still a huge step.
I've done a good bit of research into this, and I'll have to agree to disagree with you.

if you are referring to the batteries I can agree with that and I always found it kind of funny how they boast about EVs being eco friendly, that's only true as long as you don't mind the multiple lunar masses worth of lithium that those cars will be dumping somewhere after they die, that gigafactory thing will make sure we have more lithium waste than we have CO2 emissions today

If I was going to buy a new car this is what I'd buy as well. I hope Musk takes a giant **** on the oil industry. People like him are some of the very few glimmers of hope in this world.

They can be re-purposed and recycled. http://sustainablog.org/2015/07/battery-recycling-how-well-keep-electric-vehicle-batteries-out-of-landfills/

That will cost about 70.000€ in Finland after all taxes... Not gonna be popular in here, where cars average age is 15-y. Worlds biggest outdoor car museum 😀 My car is 1996 golf variant. :bang:

But on other hand, having own charging station will spike your power consumption so much, that you'll get to pay much less for 1kWh. You'll never feel need to remove xmas lighting again. 😀
hehe true, I just hope the neighbors don't steal the energy from me, so their stuff won't melt 😀

But I'd say the actual number of preorders should be right around 10% of that 400K or whatever the final number of those preoorders are of the customers that will keep it and purchase the car. The first Model 3s won't roll out of the factory and into the streets until 2018 at the earliest but may be more like 2019/2020. Delays are very inevitable with Tesla. Among other things, people change their minds all the time for many different reasons. That $1000 deposit is 100% refundable as well.
