Did the 380X turn out to be a false rumour? We are already well into the second half of October, yet there's nothing to be found other than the initial hearsay from more than a month ago.

That's a really decent overclock you've got there on your sample, pretty jealous! Definitely shows off the cooling capability of the card, at 1150MHz and +50mV on mine for example, I start hitting 75ºC so it ends up being pointless for me pushing it further. Memory too, mine craps out at 1515MHz, and your sample gets 1600MHz!!! Give me your card!

There is not 960ti so there is no 380X as well. Idk, but TongaXT exist in mobile/laptops so its possible.

Since it is rumored to be 2048shader 256bit card, it exists. It is R9-M295X and it has feature level DX 12_0 too, so it is new one. Question is if AMD feels like bringing it to desktop. Because they did not move it to R9-M3xx line yet. I think next mobile and desktop graphics will be all on 14/16nm as 28nm will not be disruptive enough.

I noticed in the review you're using Afterburner 4.2.0 b...I can't find it anywhere...anyway, my R9 380 4GB card refuses to allow me to adjust core voltage under AB 4.1.1. Any info, HH? Thanks!

There is a very VERY beta version you can find in the AB section, which is that build. I doubt the 380 was added though.

Thanks, Hilbert. Very nice review as usual, btw. I was just wondering as your review is using the voltage adjustment for OC and I have the same card, albeit a 4GB version--and I cannot get the current version to adjust voltage so the max I can OC @ standard voltage is ~1.1GHz...(Which is fine, really...I just like to get all the bells & whistles running...;)) Edit: Thanks again...HH. Yup, you're right about the 4.2.0b... No luck, went back to the 4.1.1's and really looked at the program & config files this time...I think it's in need of updating--seems like MSI would allow & pay Unwinder to update the program as they're advertising it for all their latest AMD & nVidia GPUs. Still not sure why the 4.2.0b unlocked the voltage setting for the card you reviewed but apparently not for the 4GB card I own...unless there's a new GOP bios out.

Whats the point to compare this mid range VGA in WHQD? I mean its totally useless to review the card over 1080p at full settings, that's for higher tier cards.... AMD can say hey my VGA is designed for 1440p but when we see the numbers and using common sense its impossible to target that resolution with that performance. I would love to see how much capable is this vga in 1080p compared with the others neck by neck

My 4Gb version of the card does 1920x1200 2x-8x FSAA without breaking a sweat, and I've used the 2560x1600 VSR resolution (rendering @ 2560x1600 internally and supersampling it down to display @ 1920x1200) numerous times with little to no perceivable slow down. I think it depends on the game you are running and the settings you use & personal taste as to which gpus run which games at "acceptable" frame-rates. Certainly, trying to lump all games together by GPU is pretty much a waste of time, imo, and I generally tend to play my games instead of benchmarking their max avg framerates. Blanket statements like "GPU X won't support 3d gaming at X resolution" are usually wrong, unless we we start using extreme ~4k numbers for the resolution, and so on. You know what they say, "One man's treasure is..."... 🤓

They are coming it seems 🙂 I've been waiting for months for this card too!! In the page the date of November 5 is refered, but I've seen documents indicating November 15 for the actual release 😉

Either you have a different voltage controller on the board or you have not enabled voltage in the AB preferences.

That wouldn't make much sense business wise. It'd be more powerful than 380, which is sold everywhere. But then again, AMD has been doing nothing but losing its market share of late, so I guess one can't count on their smartness too much.

256-bit memory bus is a big plus.
