Yeah after the ASIC boards came out for litecoin mining you could find 290x's reselling at like $250. It was insane. I think too many people afraid of buying used though, but for $250 -- I was debating selling my 980 and just buying two 290x's.

@Denial That's a good point too, I've not looked at local (UK) 290X prices since ASIC boxes became more readily available. ...Seems second hand prices over here are about £190 / $280+ with a little patience on ebay Though tempting, I certainly don't need more than I have now (MSI 290X Gaming) until I get an Oculus Rift or a 4K screen (though I will not buy another card with a cooler as insufficient as this again - and this is meant to be one of the better versions -.-" Gigabytes version is good enough.)

Just rumors, but here you have some pricings on the upcoming 300 series. http://www.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/2z94im/cebit_rumors_amd_r9_300_series_380_330_380x_400/
That even looks plausible to me.
Their Titan pricing is absurd (and 980 too). Also G-Sync proprietary limitations aren't anything great. But I'm not here to see only some kind of revenge. If 390x offers some reasonable performance at acceptable price, and adaptive sync monitors emerge, I'm ready for a switch. I'm on NV cards since Riva128 (with a short episode with 280x, while still keeping 680), but I'm not their fanboy. It just happened that every time I was upgrading, they had better offer. If AMD offer turns out to be better in terms of performance / price / standards support, then why shouldn't I grab it?
I would find 800€ for a 390X 4GB also absurd. But that changes as soon as it's got a red team sticker on it, and nobody complains about it anymore. To me personally it's been back and forth since I started with pc gaming, 3dfx, riva tntn2, radeonx800, 4850, 5770cfx (what a fail), 580. But I don't see myself trading in my 980s for a single 390x.
Impressive performance, but their pricing will either make or break them
That's what you hear about the Titan (and nvidia in general) each and every year...

I wouldn't buy used amd cards these days exactly because of the miners...

I'm just happy the personal mining era is almost over. When the 290X came out, it was impossible to buy one because people would buy 10 of them to mine bitcoins, and thus, jacking up prices.

Hope we get at least a paper launch to piss on Nvidia's Titan launch.
And not sell another GPU in the following 3-4 months till they ship it? Then OTOH they've already stopped shipping their GPUs due to channel being swamped with GPUs that nobody is buying. So it could be the case of we can't hurt nonexistent sales, might as well ride the rumors train. According to heise.de perf/$ is stagnating or taking a nose down: R9 390X ~ 700$+ R9 390 ~ 700$ R9 380X (faster than 290X) ~ 400$ R9 380 (faster than 290) ~ 330$ R9 370 (approx. between R9 270X and R9 285) ~200$ R7 360X ~ 150$ R7 360 ~ 110$

That´s a big jump on shaders, i can´t remember such an increase in the past; looks like it´s going to be a performance beast!

I hope also this looks awesome and put titan x to shame specially if price is right.

You can't make money on leaked slides. They need to start releasing actual products. Nvidia is churning out the new stuff for quite a while in Maxwell.

So people are griping about this being $700 when the Titan X will cost something like $1k? What's up with that?
Because most people, myself included, still think $700+ is a lot of money for a single GPU - $1K on the other hand is ridiculous!

Amen to that, A-M-E-N = Spells AMEN!!!! As of right now, my eyes are on the gm200 cut/980 ti and the radeon 390X. I will be looking very closely at the Titan-X, but from past history of the titans, anything using the word titan is going to be costing huge sums of cash. I'll be looking at this review very carefully, should be out today correct? 17th of march?

My 290x was 479€ at launch, so I won't give 700€ for a space heater and just for a 50~60% increase in performance, and that's the reason I don't buy nvidia besides their proprietary bs. My limit is 500 or I won't even care.

It's still quite much for a single gpu, quite much for an amd gpu. And still it's okay because it's amd, and there's the even more expensive Titan... not very logical either.

with those spec and performance numbers, why would anyone get the Titan over the 390x? based on speculation which are most likely true, 390x is about 30% cheaper while offering better performance. but is it really better in power efficient who really knows yet but who really cares for these super enthusiast cards... as if it really matters. im interested in the more "consumer" gaming cards for the masses such as the 370 and 380 series as these are in direct competition with the current gaming cards in the market. but right now all the attention and hype is all directed at the 390x.

All this hype and rumor is too much! I just want to see the end product with some final benchmarks already!

Same here. If the 390x is as good as it looks from the rumours posted so far. I can see me changing out the Classifieds for a couple of these. 🙂 Don't give a rats ass about power consumption. Just want it to be fast, real fast.

Sounds like somebody wants to damage the sales of the titan x. I know I'm gonna be tagged as a hater, but I wouldn't be surprised if amd is behind all this. I seriously see many of their marketing strategies as being plain bad and childish. But that's just me. Well I can't wait to see what they bring to the table. I'm tired of leaked benchmarks from both parties that could very well be fake.
For the information we have via VZ, AMD had the 16-17 march a non public presentation ( understand meeting with partners and brands ), thoses slide come from it. Well if not faked, but it will be a lot of work ( one slide ok, 5-6 .. a bit harder )..

If you compare the various Titan X benchmarks to these slides, it has the 390x about 10% faster in BF4, Alien Isolation and FC4. Tomb Raider looks to be near enough the same on both cards though. If this is around $700-750 then Nvidia will have to drop the price of the TitanX, unless these benchmarks were cherry picked by AMD, but even for only 4 is quite a decent variety.

It's about 60% faster than 290X. OMG, I can't imagine dat price
Yeah, but betcha it'd be cheaper than the Titan X! 😀

I agree but there's a problem. Titan X was out yesterday. The 390x won't be out until summer. That's 3 months (assuming it's released at the beginning of summer) for Nvidia to get sales. After which they will likely release another card, then AMD will release the x2 card, etcetc trading blows like they have been until now. So if the Titan X is going to receive a price cut, it won't be before the 390x launch.

I don't expect many people to buy the Titan X. Especially with that ridiculous price. Now we need AMD to spoil the party.
