Not really surprising considering a Sandy Bridge is for all intents and purposes is still as capable as a Skylake. Ryzen being the only real "new" innovation to come to market isn't enough to boost the numbers.

Indeed very well put, but then again there is also the fact now that Ryzen is out the market is flooded astronomically with CPU's of varying sorts! 😡 and not enough proper uses out there for it as well as like you were saiyan sandy bridge and it's equivalent is still more than fine enough. Also as you were hinting towards the 99% of us PC users build PC's mostly for gaming and simple tasks so lets not kid ourselves there lol point being no real need for upgrading unless you were old pile driver core such as the 80350 and the likes

The astronomical RAM prices are partially responsible as well. A mobo goes along with RAM and CPU. The GPU prices aren't helping new builds either.

Might have to shed a few manly tears when i finally replace my 2700k D: this chip has been a total beast all these years

Everyone is on point. High ram prices and no convincing reason to upgrade for most people especially gamers. Intel's mainstream 6-core should help kick start motherboard sales again since It looks like it needs a new socket.

If you are stuck with Intel atm and plan to switch motherboards, might as well go with AMD--traditionally, AMD gets far more use out its sockets than Intel has been able to achieve thus far. And I'd imagine that current Ryzen x370 boards will likely also support the next iteration of Ryzen--Ryzen 2. As far as socket longevity goes, AMD is the clear winner there, imo. But I agree that overall there is a sharp uptick in non-Chinese sales (Western Europe and the US) which should bring in far more revenue than Chinese sales, I should think, even with a Chinese market drop off.

"Might as well go with AMD"?!?!?!? 😱 No thank you! I don't care so much about socket longevity. I care about "useful life". Intel's 1155 socket has had a long useful life. No processor on AM2, AM2+, or AM3 was ever competitive. All these people on the fast train to hype town remind me of the bad little boys in Pinocchio going to Pleasure Island. Anyone remember what happened to them? As far as the declining sales - it isn't exactly news. It's been going on for a a decade. Intel stopped producing motherboards after Ivy Bridge for a reason. Did anyone that's not going to Pleasure Island actually think Ryzen was going to effect this trend?

Are you for real, according to latest Intel leaked benchmarks the 8700K is 7.56% faster then 1600X. The latest prices that surfaced on Germany show a €140 difference between the 8700k vs 1600X. And btw you don't need a X370 to OC a ryzen, do it like me, get a B350 gaming 3, 1600X OC to 4.2Ghz (1.362V) flareX OC to 3466mhz, beating any I7 7700k under or to 4.6GHZ and any 7800X under or to 4.7GHZ. Look how much money i saved by not buying an intel, and the difference in performance is under 2 digits, and i use a cheap air cooler to get a MAX of 68ºC.

No innovation for 6 years from both brands... High DDR4 prices (double what they once where)... Consoles getting better with late generations... No reason to justify the MB+CPU+RAM=Expensive Upgrade... Putting stupid things on MB and make them expensive AF (RGB)... And many more reasons to justify the decline. Maybe this year we see a somewhat of a turnaround.

I agree, no need to improve. Joke aside: More people are poor, to be able to pay for a MB + CPU + RAM and to keep them more that 4-5 years is nice for them. I will like a big improvement like 80-100% increase in performance from one generation to another in all scenarios. But this will never happen the way things are going now. Still many don't see the need to upgrade if you got an old PC (maybe the GPU for new games), others don't need the PC anymore (console or smartphones/tablets) and others only buy a notebook and that's it (no need for a Desktop to, in the good old day's first was the Desktop then maybe a laptop, now only laptop for many).
