At the rate MS are releasing a new windows OS we will be getting a season pass for each version now instead of a service pack. lol

I prefer the Start Screen, I like my desktop without any shortcuts on it. This is my Start Screen, I have removed all the the default apps. http://abload.de/thumb/untitled-1pmced.jpg If I need anything else I just start to type it's name on the Start Screen and it shows up.

The fact that Microsoft are offering Windows 9 as a free update seems to suggest to me that it isn't going to be hugely different from Windows 8.1. Why even bother marketing it as a new operating system...why not just call it Windows 8.2 or Windows 8 Service Pack 2? Is there really any need to release a new version of Windows every 2-3 years anyway? Usually that comes with its share of compatibility issues, particularly with older software that probably isn't being updated any more not to mention some games not working properly (anyone who has played any of Techland's older games can tell of upside-down, mirrored black & white loading screens and videos on Windows 8, something that was never ever fixed!!!).
Because it really is windows 8.2 and nothing more than damage control by shaking off the windows 8 name. To be honest they really have no choice at this point and i hope they learned this painful lesson which is "no one gives a **** about touchscreens/metro when chillin at their desk"

Going back to the old start menu is such a step back. Why do the vocal majority have be the whiners who cant deal with change, even if its for the best.
"even if its for the best" well thats YOUR opinion, but that doesnt make it universally correct. The vast majority prefered to have an OS in style of win7, and as do i (i have 8.1 on my 2nd computer, and it really does suck). They could have given the OPTION of not using the start button, and instead have that tablet crap, but why on earth they forced a tablet setup on desktop users is beyond me. I wont be changing OS from win7 until i can get a new OS, that is 100% rid of tablet crap.

That's your opinion. Doesn't make it true.

Because something you apparently can't be able to comprehend is just because you like it doesn't mean it's best for everyone, in fact i'm starting to believe that if you like something, it must not be for the best.

Oh ffs. Metro is ok, but on a touch screen. I tried to fix a friend's laptop with Win8 and i was minutes away from snapping the damn thing in two.

MS wants Windows to be a jack of all trades, master of none OS. Thanks but no thanks. I have a mouse cursor to precisely click on icons. I don't need colorful giant ass squares and rectangles to obstruct my beautiful wallpapers. My desktop and laptop monitor is not touch screen either. My tablet is a Nexus 10 and Android is easy to use while still having a nice visible background. Same thing at work. Everyone there prefers to have a crapton of their document files directly accessible from the desktop. HR chose not to upgrade to Win8.X and they actually received praise from both ways for avoiding unnecessary cost and sparing us the torment of metro ui. Win9 looks better but I'll give it time for reviews and fixes. Hopefully there is an option to hide/modify those last metro remnants in the start menu. It looks horribly inconsistent having those giant buttons next to an applications list.
I don't get it. You can have exactly what you want on your desktop, icons, shortcuts, whatever you want, just like in w7. If you don't like metro, don't use it.

As a Windows 8.1 user I don't mind the start screen on my tablet because that was what it was made for. However on my desktop I prefer the start menu because I have so much stuff installed that it would clutter up the start screen. I think the free upgrade to windows 9 for 8.1 users is awesome.

The majority of us r still on Win 7, M$ knows this and we still have to buy Win 8 or 9 either way. M$ loses sweet fa giving this away free to Win 8 users.

I was such a big hater of windows 8 when I first used it but honestly I love it now 8.1 fixed the real issues and now that I'm use to I find windows 7 a real chore to use and it feels really dated. Awesome that we get a free upgrade to 9 as well.

You chastise somebody for giving an opinion, then in the same post you give your own opinion about Windows?

That is your own fault really. you could have bought windows 8 really cheap. trying to blame microsoft for this sounds really silly.

Im about time efficiency more than anything when it comes to using a pc, whether at home, school or work. If at work, I went to my boss and said I don't like Windows 8 I cant get my work done, its just so unintutive, I cant do what your paying me to do, what do think would happen. If they were a decent company, they would do a review of the system and see where the issue is, and when they go through the process of: Turn PC on Logon Click on MsWord Icon on the desktop, or if not there, press win+S - type MSW..., or press win key - click on MsWord, or press win key then select 'Apps by:...' until MsWord shows up. File Open select word document start working... Whos the one that looks like a dick? MS or the whinging employee who doesn't like a simplified efficient UI? *note: You can replace work with Home or school and MsWord with anything you like. Whats so difficult?
