And how exactly are they "pushing Win10 down gamers throat" with offering free performance? If you don't like or need this - don't update.

MS is finally gatting back into PC market (in the meaning that they really started to bring visible improvements). Of course they have a VERY long road ahead, but it is a great start anyway.

Don't be surprised if it is only for UWP junk and will have no difference in performance except for very old PC's and that too marginally as long as it is UWP + EFS crippled games. This is MS we're talking about.

I will be impressed when I can put an actual Xbox game in my pc and play it like a console.

****ing hell, first MS gets criticized for not caring about games on Windows, and now they do and they're being critized for caring about games on Windows. I mean, what?

What is this "free" performance? Bugs that were not fixed over years or marketing bullsh!t?

Looks more like an additional source of bugs and crashes while gaming to me.

%100 right, this UWP sh*t is killing me, at least in windows 8 they looked more consistent than they are now. Either this useless, empty, unstable, unnecessary and inconsistent ecosystem is the future or I'm missing sth

right now it is THE OS for gamer ... so M$ doesn't push anything, it consolidate the position where it get.

I dont think he's talking specifically about this but about the bigger picture with MS Universal Windows Platform (UWP) which MS may eventual push to squeeze out steam in favor of games selling only thru windows store. Tim Sweeny (Epic games) very critical about it, Steam's Gabe Newell calls it a "catastrophe". http://gadgets.ndtv.com/games/news/steam-on-windows-10-will-get-progressively-worse-gears-of-war-developer-865457

I can't see it having any benefit to any machines other than very low end, if disabling a few processes in windows improves your gaming frames, you need to upgrade badly I see no difference in gaming performance even if I am running a second Windows 10 in VM And this is not exactly a top of the range machine these days

Maybe it disables hidden telemetry settings? :P To me this will also be a litmus test on how committed they are to improving the experience for all gamers on windows or cynically attempt to push their rubbish ecosystem. I wouldn't mind Windows disabling some stuff while gaming, just less things to go wrong if done right. Third parties have been offering such software since as long as I can 'member though MS can potentially do a lot better. My expectations are very low lol.

Well, one thing that happened when going from DOS to Windows, was the big amount of CPU context switches for preemptive multitasking. This does not come for free. It *is* quite a bit of overhead. If this "gaming mode" is actually making a game acquire near-exclusive access to the CPU and minimizing context switching (making gaming more similar to what we had in the DOS days), we should see a statistically significant increase in gaming performance. If, on the other hand, it just means freeing up RAM and such, then yeah, "gaming mode" will probably not do anything on properly configured machines and only help with machines that have a huge amount of crap running in the background because their users install everything they come across without thinking (or even knowing what they're doing.)

Console settings free of background noise for PC. This I look forward to.

Considering Microsoft's history regarding PC gaming, and how recently I had to pay 140€ for a new PCB for my Xbox One TE2 fightstick because it only worked within the Xbox app environment and not with Steam nor emulators for some reason, I wouldn't be surprised if it was only a Xbox App feature as well. I'ld have liked it better if Microsoft stayed out of PC gaming for good after they were done dismantling their old PC gaming studios and closing up GWL. 😛uke2:

Game mode? A user mode would be good, they havent cracked that yet.

Because it's the only OS that pretty much runs every game, and essential for many newer games. I've used this via third party software before, but would be good to have it built into the OS. Not that I have done extensive testing, but can't say I noticed performance improvements from using it. It's like tweaking the OS for extra performance never saw the point, and actually think it makes things worse, but at least the one click solutions would put everything back to normal when you finished gaming.
