I just hope this does not change the path of Windows 8/9 giving the end user the choice of using a startbar as they are planning. If so oh well, good thing there is other methods of getting the startbar/booting to desktop.

Microsoft was at it's best when Gates was CEO.. (or did everyone forget that Bill Gates held that title prior to Ballmer?)
Both Android and ChromeOS are free....and both are quite suitable for use as a desktop OS.
ChromeOS really isn't as bad (anymore) as it's been made to seem. Sure, it had a rocky start, but it's actually become a viable alternative to Windows for a lot of people. If all you do is e-mail and stream YouTube or read the news online, ChromeOS is the best option IMHO (so long as you have a stable internet connection).....

Going from nothing, to having a "monopoly" in Desktop OS's, a "monopoly" in Media Players, a "monopoly" in the Browser market..... "That, is not saying much"?? Windows dominated the consumer market, corporate market and mobile market. The only market it had competition in, was the server market. Now look at Windows. It's lost an entire market under Ballmer and now MS even feels threatened by ChromeOS (proven by their Anti-ChromeOS advert...) Market share in mobile is nearly non-existant. When Gates stepped down as CEO, Microsoft lost it's way. Gates is the reason the desktop, is what it is. The XBox even came from the Gates era...

ChromeOS was made for laptops and those are mobile devices, Android yes its functional OS but was made for touch screen devices. Windows was designed for scratch to be as desktop`ish as possible.

Gates managed to bring MS to be one of the giants it still is.
Ballmer managed to raise MS' revenue post-Gates (even though it's mainly from Android, strange as it may sound).
Nadella hasn't even farted on the CEO seat yet.
If you consider Ballmer was a failure then you might as well say "100% of Microsoft CEOs post-Gates doesn't have a positive impact!".
